View Poll Results: Should Florida separate into two states?
Yes, they are too different and South Florida could get more tax money and politics would pay more attention to us. 44 45.36%
No, it would hurt our economy and be a bad decision. 39 40.21%
I don't really care 14 14.43%
Voters: 97. You may not vote on this poll

Not to mention there are sharp differences in political ideas. Obama only won FL because of South FL.

It'd be like NC/SC and ND/SD. South FL should be consisted of Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, Collier, Lee, Charlotte, St. Lucie, Martin and Indian River counties. The rest of FL would be known as North Florida.
Hmm... Orlando is quickly turning into a South Florida-like city... Seminole and Orange County are becoming VERY similar to Dade and Broward.

Those people should get over it, or move somewhere else. I wouldn't wanna be somewhere where everyone thinks a way completely opposite to me, nor would I wanna be somewhere where everyone is hive minded. Both republicans and democrats have their own valid points and you need to mix that up so we can take the best ideas from each. I think Florida's a very politically screwed state, but being politically homogenous would only make things worse. Then it's either only the right wingers in power, or the left wingers in power. I dunno about you, but I wanna be able to marry my boyfriend in this country (regardless of state) AND be able to keep a gun for my own protection. (And make sure murderers get executed.)

Let's not forget, the state of Florida is heavily Republican in both the north and southern parts. In N. Florida it's mostly white Anglo-Americans with a southern accent that vote republican, and in S. Florida, it's mostly Cuban-Americans (many of them white) with a Cuban accent, that vote republican. Politically the whole state is messed up, has nothing to do with party affiliations, but the actual politicians themselves.

South FLORIDA already feels like its own state to be honest. Its a mix between Latinos and Jewish and Italian NY transplants.. lot of my family moved to Coral Gables and Pembroke Pines.

Let's not forget, 58% of voters supported medical marijuana in the election, more than any governor has gotten in popular vote in the last six elections. Let's also not forget that FL on the whole supports same-sex marriage as well. Let's also not forget than FL went for Obama. Twice.

FL is certainly not a "messed up" state. It's a "purple" state, and likely a microcosm of the entire country.

Bitter about what, exactly? I don't live there. I'm in Palm Beach every now and then. That's enough South FL for me.

I mean messed up in the sense that there's a lot of political corruption. It definitely is a "purple" state though.
