Hi All,

I was searching for buying a second home in FL.

I live in NJ and wish to continue the same, although due to the recent market etc, I wish to invest in FL and 'may be' in future settle down. Who knows.. ..

I have young family. Am 34 yrs, wife 31 years, and have six year old daughter.

I liked the Kisimmee houses, very nice big although reading through citi data, am little skeptical on crime rate, schooling etc. Is it really true? Any one really living in Kissimmee to confirm the living standard?

What other counties are good to live? I am going to look for a foreclosed home to get a decent deal.

Thanks for your time.
DJ

*sigh*

Everybody seemingly wants to live at Disney's doorstep. Unfortunately the crime rate is higher in Kissimmee, the schools aren't very good, it's nowhere near the job centers and you're in the middle of the tourism congestion. Also contrary to popular opinion you will not be spending significant time strolling around Disney/Epcot/Universal/Sea World in your everyday life once living here. It's a popular fallacy similar to those who live on the coasts who supposedly sit on the beach all the time...not so much.

Foreclosed homes are all over the state, so finding a deal won't be that difficult. I would address the school situation first as it's obviously important should you decide to move here as well as for resale value. If you're looking for relatively good access to the theme parks for vacation you might check out Lake Mary or Oviedo which are about an hour from Walt Disney World on the NE side of Orlando. The schools are excellent and are very low crime areas that are close to job centers as well.

If you're looking past the close accessibility to Walt Disney World check out St Johns County which is just south of Jacksonville. The northern part of the county in particular which includes Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, World Golf Village and Julington Creek has some beautiful newer build communities and one of the top school districts in the state.

Also look to the south at Martin County which includes the cities of Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach and Hobe Sound. Again the schools are among the best of the state and it offers a very family-friendly environment as well.

Thanks a lot for this informative message.

I am from India and would love to be in community where people from India live by. Would you have idea which counties will have more population from India? I am from Gujarat (west side of India).

Check out the Jacksonville area as it has a big medical community which is traditionally well-populated by people of Indian origin. There's also a large Indian community organization there that puts on social events and such.
