I live in Estero(between Fort Myers and Naples). We are in a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment, 20 minutes or so from the beach driving. It is $780 for just that. If it looks cheap down here, and it is $800 for a 3-4 bedroom house, it is SURELY a bad area.... DO NOT let anyone talk you into Lehigh Acres either. BAD BAD BAD... Bonita Springs is close to the beach, but that has it's not so good areas too. Anything off old us 41, not good. Anything on Estero Blvd which is walking distance to the beach, you better be loaded. Houses rent there for $1500++++!!!! Most are vacation weekly rentals. Or rich folk. Fort Myers is pretty chopped up with good and bad areas. Best thing to do. Go to the Fort Myers/Naples sub forums... Or ask one of us who lives right here when you are looking.

Good reasons for people new to the area to rent for a while before buying the house.I can only imagine the frustration of moving to an area one isnt familiar with and buying a house that you soon realize was a big mistake and now spend years trying to resell the house..

Definitely!!!! I could have had about 10 jobs in the Tampa area, but I don't know the area, and as luck would have it, I would end up in a not so great area, then be back to Mr. Negative....LOL. I know 4 areas of FL, SWFL, Orlando, Melbourne, and Vero beach. I always stick with those.
