Hi! my name is Vicky and I my husband and I have 3 girls. Their ages are 17, 11 and one that is 5 months old that I am currently breastfeeding..trying to wean as we speak!.. Anyhow we are moving to the Florida area due to my job transfer and he is a OTR truck driver, so I am looking for a safe suburban residential are to live. We are looking to either rent an apartment, condo or a house before buying as I am unfamiliar with the area. Since my husband is gone 7 or 10 days out safety is of utmost importance..Which areas are close to the beaches and or shopping centers?..and do these communities offer good schools as well. I don't have a dog or a gun..so I have to feel safe at night and during the day with the baby and the girls. Looking online, Clearwater, Brandon, Braedanton, and Ruskin appear to be nice. Is there any town or communities or apartments that I should stay away from? Thanks so much!

There are some nice areas of Ruskin (near I-75). I'm not a fan of Brandon as it's quite overbuilt in my opinion. You might check out Apollo Beach if you like the Ruskin area, around I-75 as well. Outside of Brandon (southeast side) you'll find Bloomingdale, Lithia and Fish Hawk which are nice/uncongested. Not sure how far south you want to go but Parrish is nice, just a bit further south of Ruskin. For schools the Fish Hawk/Lithia/Bloomingdale area is probably the best.

Brandon (for the most part) is really crowded, transportation arteries into and out of are few and crowded. It's not my thing. Drive up and down SR 60 in the middle of the day or in rush hour and you will see what I mean.

Ruskin has too high of a concentration of illegals and migrant workers for my taste. Crime is higher than it should be because of this.
