My husband, I and 2 kids want to move south to pursue the writers dream (we're fed up w/ the corporate scene and Ohio winters). We have saved, but to stretch our dollar, obviously, we need to move to a place with low taxes/affordable housing but isn't too far away from a major city (no more than an hour, say). Can anyone recommend somewhere that isn't too far in the boonies, scenic, low crime, good schools?

Thanks!
DB

I would recommend Land O Lakes, Lutz, Wesley Chapel just north of Tampa. You could also consider Spring Hill as housing is more affordable the further noth of Tampa you go.

Best of luck on your search !

Thumbs up the utopia list...

but it's good to want it all!!

The Treasure Coast Area is a choice I made many years ago. I've raised 4 children in the area, who have found success in their lives right here on the Treasure Coast. The area is the Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin County area. Some include Okeechobee County as well (I do).

Look at Pt. St. Lucie (St. Lucie Co) and Jensen Beach/Stuart/Palm City, Hobe Sound area (Martin County). St lucie is more affordable and growing, Martin Co. lower in taxes... but housing values are higher.

I'm in Martin Co. and would recommend the schools. High school has bacalaureat program, and are all "A" rated schools. Martin Co. is in the top 100 school districts in the country.

I like my hometown-I enjoy where I have my home (Palm City) and the downtown area (Stuart) is enjoyable and scenic. Lots to do, great beaches (Goggle Bathtub Beach), fantastic boating opportunities, and good living.

Good luck with your search!!
