This topic is just depressing me. I don't like summer. I didn't like summer for 3 months up North and couldn't wait until it was over. I am not looking forward to it for 12 months here. By summer I also mean anything over 70 degrees so don't talk about how wonderful December through April will be. Honestly, it may just as well be 90 as far as I am concerned. I want 50s, 40s, even 30s.
Sorry, that is how I feel. I didn't move here for the weather or the beach. It was not a choice. Hopefully, I can just try and ignore it. |

Very odd to hear anyone thinks the weather in places like NY and Boston is better than Fla. I would say that it's mediocre in the Northeast for the most part--better than places like Minnesota, but never really that great. The Fall is the only reliably nice part of the year--you get some nice days scattered through the rest of the year, but unpredictable. Those 40 - 50 degree "break" days in the winter are often damp and unpleasant.

This is a very strange thread. Its Florida, and it is going to be hot. What sense does it make to live in Florida and complain about the heat? If you are that miserable, then convince your family to move up north. Life is too short for people who hate the heat to live in it.
Just like it is way too short for people like our family who hate anything below 60 degrees to live up north. |

People have historically moved to Florida to retire, very few have retired to Alaska. So it does not seem cold weather is all that attractive. But again, I don't blame people for liking the cold, so be it. I just am confused as to why they are posting here. Even if they are "trapped" here as some indicate, why not post on the northern state forums? At least they would be talking with like minded people and could be planning for their eventual return up north. To live in Florida and complain about the heat seems odd to me. |

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Anyone who lives and works in a "resort" type state, whether Colorado or Florida, will spend less time outside than the tourists. I get up early and walk the dog on the beach. This appeals to me a lot more than getting up early to scrape my car's windshield. Your mileage may vary. |

Sounds like a bunch of whiney Americans to me. I have lived in the west, midwest, northeast, deep south, plains, southwest, europe, and now Florida. I just learn to adjust to my location. I spend a lot of time outside in Florida during the summer, it's not that bad. People need to spend less time complaining and more time enjoying life.
I do know one thing, it is easier to go outside in 90 degree weather than below zero. Have a nice day! |

Here here!! for thebigr.
I totally agree. I've worked outside my whole life... and the last 30 yrs in Fla. Get out and get going! That's why they make hats, shorts, tee-shirts, flip-flops. Your health will improve, your fitness will increase, and the enjoyment factor will go up. We even use the hot tub in the evening (ok... cool tub, 95f). My kiddies grew up enjoying the outdoors and still do to this day. I'll admit they stayed "wet", having a pond to swim in, but they are in incredable shape, all healthy, not an ounce of fat on 'em. Ya'll missing a lot staying inside... let go of the remote, and go the beach! |

The mother of that Iraqi boy who came to America to get burn treatment kept saying, "Am I in heaven" as she checked out the US. It is shameful that people can live in Florida and not find enough good to not complain. |

But outdoors in Florida is the best. The Florida lifestyle is great for kids physically. We use common sense, stay hydrated, and know when to rest. Our kids are tough and in tremendous shape. We traveled up to PA this summer and comparing our kids to other kids on the playground was an eye opener. It was like elite athletes vs coach potatos. |
