Hello Everyone, Fiance And I With Our 7yrs Son R Thinking On Moving Down South From Nj To St.augustine-daytona, Fl Area. My Only Worry Is The Pay. Currently Here In Nj I Could Bring Home About 18$ Per Hour Doing Data Entry Clerk. Does Anyone Here Live Around This Area And R Able To Tell Me What Pay Decrease I Would Have To Take. I Just Started My Research But Found This Site That I Might Find My Answer Quick. Thank U All.

Well the entire state pay suxs.. I worked for the State attorneys office in SW Fl.. doing exactly that and it was starting $10.00 an hour.. thats the usual base pay in fl.. Most secretaries or clerical jobs are going to be between $9-13 an hour.. But its much more expensive to live so it doesn't equal out.. One of the biggest gripes people have in florida is pay.. For what you'll do they'll find 3 illegals to do for twice as less , more hours, and they'll work the holidays..

Our area (Sarasota County) doesn't have a whole lot of data entry jobs any longer. A lot of those jobs, went away when the construction companies left.
When there were some of those jobs here, they paid around $8.75-10 an hour. I suppose if you had been with a company for around 5 years you could make more, potentially $11-12 an hour.
I couldn't recommend our area, if that's the type of work you do. The cost of living is high, wages are very low and prospects for employment dim.
May I suggest Texas? There are a lot of cities like Houston, Ft. Worth and so on, that pay better, have more employment opportunities and a much lower cost of living. They have beaches and warm weather there too.
Good luck in your move.

I strongly suggest you don't move without doing a lot research in your target area. Daytona/ St. Augustine are not hot spots for a job market. Check Texas as someone suggested, North Carolina. Check Dice.com - Job search for Technology Professionals for data entry jobs all over the country.

I live in Northwest FL and the going rate for data entry or other administrative support type jobs seems to be between $8-$11 per hour here.
Look at the big sites like Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, Dice.com, or HotJobs.com. You can also search the local newspapers online. Since you are interested in St. Augustine, you should probably search Jacksonville's paper which is the Florida Times-Union. You might want to go to the Jacksonville specific forum. They may be able to give you more info on St. Augustine.

I'm sorry, but the reality is that for the area you are looking to move, IF you can even find a job it will be at the low end of the payscale the above posters have quoted you. I agree you need to do a lot of research before you come here. Cost of living is high for the pay you will receive, and once again, lots of jobs here have been lost, someone coming from out of the area has an even slimmer chance of landing something than before.
Not wanting to be negative, but don't want to see you make a costly mistake. Good luck!

Daytona area more like $7-8. hr to start, St Aug probably not that much higher.
Also consider benefits down here do not compare with up north, so particularly if you will need health/dental insurance be prepared to pay alot for your share of cost of insurance, and then co-pays and deductables.
Good luck! Living near the beach and leaving the snow behind may be worth pay cuts.
