Lightbulb Ridge Manor, Florida

Found this site looking for who publishes the Ridge Manor News-a local flyer (newspaper) for this area. Wanted to post something here about our area in hopes that others would do the same.

Also local news about vandalism of the local park. This is a disgrace. Kids what would cause you to want to do something to hurt your area and make it look bad? Please look inside yourselves for the answer to this question. Is being in trouble and going to jail what you want in your lives?

Sorry people. It's just that I can't understand why anyone would want to cause grief or pain for other people. I wish that I could make anything unpleasant in the world disappear. I would if I could take on all the problems, and pain of all as, it would give me so much pleasure to no that everyone was happy, doing well, and wishing the same for their fellow man.

Ridge Manor is located in eastern hernando county which is about an hour north of tampa on I-75. It is a rural area with some parts having large ranch houses on lots of acres to the typical subdivisions. It is about 35-45 minutes depending on traffic to the closet beach which is Pine Island to the west. Route 50 (cortez Blvd) is the main east/west road, which taking it east will get you to orlando(~ hour to Disney) or west to the gulf of mexico. The hernando county sheriff's office is the law enforcement of the county and their webpage has excellent crime statistics if you want. (hernandosheriff dot org). Just remember, it gets very hot here and the humidity can be brutal. We usually have day time temps in the 90's from May to September and the forecast this week is to hit 90 again!.

Question Ridge Manor

I am glad this site it out here. I am needing some more info then what is posted. Can someone please help? My husband & I and our 5 year old daughter are thinking about moving to that area. We are from an area that has everything here in IN. Will there be things there for our daughter - like dance lessons, girl scounts, etc? Also, how are the schools? This will be a big move for us, but we are thinking about her. Thanks.

IMHO, ridge manor is too far east. Brooksville has more activities for your daughter, but spring hill would have even more. Ridge manor is located in the eastern most part of Hernando county and it is a rural area. It is slowly beginning to expand and get more housing but I would stay closer to brooksville or in spring hill.
My family and I live in spring hill and there are many things my 3 kids do that they would not be able to without a long drive in ridge manor....
Maybe others will chime in and disagree, but I would look in spring hill area.
PLUS is gets really hot the further inland you live since you are much farther away from the coast to get the sea breeze. Even though the actual temperature may only differ by a few degrees between spring hill and ridge manor, the FEELS like tempature could differ by a lot. So it may feel like 95 -100 at the coast, it will feel closer to 110 inland.....If you have never been to Florida, I would recommend visiting in the middle of July before committing to move here.....Any other questions, post or PM me.....

Default Looking for Help

Thanks for the input. That is good to know. My parents moved to Zephyrhills (?) last October and we were wanting to stay close to them. The area we looked at is in the Whispering Oaks golf course. My husband wants to live on a course. We found that the taxes are much cheaper there than in Zephyrhills. I also need to find a good paying job that compares to what I am making now & one that I can transfer my 401K to. Are there jobs like that in Spring Hill - or does one need to commute to Orlando/Tampa?

Without knowing what you currently do and the range you make now, it is impossible to guess. But remember Hernando county is not a technology hub as most high tech companies are in tampa/clearwater/st pete. You will find construction, banking, insurance, medical, & manufacturing jobs in the county and there are also plenty of different jobs working for the county itself. SWIFTMUD also has a regional headquarters in brooksville and they employ several type of engineers....
