Sure Looks Bad When You Put It That Way Mr. Mike ~
Reply to Mike Peterson's Post
Looks pretty bad when you put 13 crimes in a list like that; however, out of thirteen days, only 13 incidents, works out to one crime per day. Not so bad, really? Mostly burglary because of the 'rural-ness' of the area. I won't deny that GGE is an area that is very secluded, rural and only patrolled by a few Collier County Sheriff Officers.
I'm not sure why a 'real estate agent' would type such an inflamatory and degrading neighborhood post. Apparently, Mike is only selling homes in Fort Myers or Miami. ( Those better parts of Florida )
Each homeowner must attempt to dissuade criminals from entering their home. It is not always possible to do this; and its not the homeowner who is faulted for being a target of a crime; however, each individual homeowner could have a burglar system and a big dog to guard the premises. Some of the crimes commited are simply crimes of ease, unlocked vehicles, open windows, unlocked doors, expensive maintenance equipment left out on the front lawn overnight.
I'll bet Naples proper has far more crime than GGE does. I don't have any statistical proof of this, but after having to live in River Reach apartments for over three years - I was very glad to get into the Estate Area and get away!
I happen to know the person mentioned in the article you so thoughtfully posted, "Renee Brandenburg"; and she is not a "shining example" of a typical GGE resident (sorry Renee), and almost 1/4 of the incidents mentioned in your "crime report" happened in the 8th - 16th Street NE area! Again, (zip 34120) not the BEST part of the overall Estates.
IN MY OPINION; just before 8th ST NE up to Everglades BLVD N, just south of Randall Blvd, and North of Golden Gate Blvd W, is an 'undesirable' part of the Estates. I'm sure to get blasted on that statement by others , but crime statistics and rapid dropping housing prices of that area substantiate my current belief. I realize that housing prices are dropping through all of the Estates area; but the proof is in statistics;
Houses for sale (most by foreclosure) by zip code:
Naples
34102 - 20
34101 - 105
34109 - 207
34116 - 266
34117 - 389
34120 - 836 <- The area in our discussion
Cape Coral
33909 - 1134
33993 - 2142
(Stats gathered from: www.zillow.com)
The zips of 34116 - 34117 - 34120 are roughly the same in area. I will admit there are more homes in the 34120 area (as it is further developed), adding fuel to those statistics. I threw in Cape Coral stats to show some perspective. Out of all the zips listed, I'd love to live in the 34102 (Port Royal / Olde Naples) area! (I'd never live in 33993 N. Cape Coral)
Remember that GGE is over 100 square miles and is one of the largest 'developments' in the country. Large enough is size (area-wise) to be its own city, there are bound to be "bad" areas and "good" areas. As there is in any community.
Fortunately, we bought our place before the current Wall Street melt-down. I'm kind of sorry to admit that I'm happy that the housing 'boom' has ended out here. On some streets there were more than 10 houses a month being built; then they would remain empty for months - inviting 'copper' and 'large appliance' thieves to the area.
I know this post will stir-up a flurry of (no-ways & you're nutz) additional posts. I welcome any discussion with contrary information.
I Love the Estates!

Mike Peterson, More important you are so wrong. Golden Gate Estates is a huge area and if you posted the crime reports of all the areas in Naples it would be clear that GGE is ok.
More important is the fact as mentioned by Judgejoe and Christopherdent, the homes in GGG are becoming the more desirable areas to build or buy large homes on large lots, in other words Estate Homes!

Golden Gate Estates is where my home is, and I too am glad I bought just before the prices jumped so high during the RE boom. I have a $600,000 home on 5 acres full of plants, flowers and fruit trees. Aren't we lucky Judgejoe and Christopher?

to really be Naples. He has said if you don't live there you don't live in Naples. Where we are, I have no clue. Someplace in the nether land of Collier County I guess.

How can I be wrong if I pulled a crime report from a reputable site and cut and pasted it here?
Here is a link to the Sheriff's website for GG crime http://www.colliersheriff.org/Index.aspx?page=2201
The OP was asking for info on GG in Naples. There were a few people that gave the rah rah answer that they love it there. Others that they did not. I posted FACTS.
You and Judge Joe also need to be a little more observant. I live no where near the areas you mentioned and in fact where I am is right on every one of my posts.
Try again.

Personally, I give my eye teeth right now to get out of not just Naples, but the state of Florida entirely.

I was in Naples about 4 years ago searching for property, I visited with a realtor and she gave me a map of the GGE. The map, if I recall correctly, had the lot numbers on every single street in GGE. I have no idea where that map is, since I still have some unpacked boxes. Does anyone know what I’m talking about and where I can get one online? I am considering Naples, Fl again since it has become affordable.
I moved from Chicago to Dallas, Tx and since being in Texas I have realized how much I really rather live near the beach, it’s not just about warmer weather.

interested in gge
I have been looking at all the foreclosures in that area. Does anyone know of a specific reason for them. Cause it's almost kind of alarming. Besides the economy could there be any other reasons. Is it a good, safe place for kids.
