A new Florida resident says the local DMV office in Naples refused to issue him a new drivers license for that state because he earlier changed his name when marrying another man in Massachusetts.
Anyone applying to transfer their drivers license to Florida must have a valid drivers license in another state, a social security card and birth certificate or Passport

And even though both his drivers license and social security card now have his married name, he tells OutQ News a Collier County DMV official wouldn’t recognize his new name because it was through a same-sex marriage.

All he has to do is move to another county so he can get his license.

He could just legally change his name and than have the licensed reissued under his new name, which leads me to wonder why his name wasn't already legally changed. If that's the case, I think the DMV should issue it. I mean Chad Johnson can have license that says Chad Ochocinco or Ron Artest one that reads Meta World Peace...than give the man his license.

He should just stick with his last name. But he's not even supposed to be married to this man, he's in the wrong for doing that. Marriage is between a man and a woman, not two men or two women. They should have just stayed up there in Massachusetts or as allenk893 said, just move to another county. Just more attention seeking gays, these two need to leave this state alone plus we already have enough people here anyway.

Seems pretty straight-forward and not, as you seem to be suggesting, an 'anti-gay conspiracy'. Florida, like mosts states, will issue a driver's license to anyone who can produce the specified documentation proving their legal identity and residence. Florida has really tightened-up their requirements and now requires more documentation, because there are so many people who try to 'manufacture' new identities for illegal purposes. Everyone, including gays, must 'jump through the same hoops. ---- (...and we all know that gays aren't looking for any type of 'special rights or treatment!')

If he's married, and he's the one that wants to change his name, he should have legally changed his name. It is a two step process where I was married, not the same form.

Sounds like it's less to do with being gay and more to do with being a slacker. DMV clerks would rather not waste time on anything out of the ordinary. If he didn't change his name, they would tell him he needed to get the licence in his current name. When his current name is the one he wants the licence in, there ya go.

I'm sure the DMV drone didn't go "NO NO TEH GAES ARE HERE!" They probably just have a policy to not issue ID in a name that isn't yours.

Why did the gay guy think that any of this had to do with him being gay? People are so stupid.

The thing is....men only need to bring the items listed in the article, but this man is "married" and is the wife of the couple since he changed his name to his spouces name.....so just like the rest of us women that were born Jane Doe on our birth certificate and married Mr. Smith and are now Jane smith we have to bring in our marriage licence to prove the name change. If we then divorce Mr. Smith and marry Mr. Jones, then we have to bring in our divorce papers and both marriage licenses to prove we are that person. No gay banging or discrimination toward this guy by the state, just following the law. .

I am not sure how the marriage between same sex people license reads but they might actually only be valid in the state that issues them. Not all states have accepted same sex marriage so his easiest thing to do is just legally change to the same name as his spouse and then he will have a paper that will prove he is who he is for the new National License which Florida is issuing to all who come into the state and apply for new driver's license.

Thanks Anita Bryant.

How about regressives just leave the state? Or, pull themselves out of the "90s" and into the modern world. I welcome these guys to Florida 1000X over any more backwoods thumpers who can't keep their religion to themselves (for which we REALLY DO have "more than enough")

Get with the program, or just "get out."

But anyway: The guy needs to legally change his name, and then get the license issued.

Haha, my family's been here since the 1800s, we were here first, not these two. I'm a native Floridian and am going to stay in this state and raise my future kids here as well. Why do these migrants even come here in the first place if they're just going to complain about the state? If you don't like the way we are, then get out, don't be trying to change us. Same sex marriage is illegal here and the ban was passed with 62% of Floridians voting for it back in 2008. So most people here DON'T approve of gay marriage. Get with the program or just "get out."
