A group of family and friends, including myself, are renting a condo in the Palazzo Condo building in Panama City for a week in July. We have never been to Panama City or the Gulf Coast (we live in New England) but we are excited to spend time on the beach and just relax.

That said, we are looking for ideas on things we can do in the area outside of just going to the beach. Any sites or towns/cities we should plan to visit? Also, what kind of amenities are around that building (grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars, etc.)? Anyone familiar with the building and the beach area there? The pictures look decently nice but sometimes reality is different.

Any and all comments are welcome! Thanks!

The Palazzo is very nice, I think you will be pleased, that being said it is a condo complex so each unit is individually owned so there will be differences condo to condo based upon the owner.

There are many things to do, Pier Park is not that far down the beach and an experience by itself.

If you like golf, there are some excellent courses on the beach, nature check out St. Andrews on the extreme East end. Don't know your age so if you are younger you will find "party central" to your East where Thomas Drive and Front Beach Road meet. If you are a little older, Schooners on the East end is the place to be. Restaurants, well the choice is endless, what kind of food do you like? Seafood, J Alexander's, Boondocks, Salt Water Grill, Hunts for oysters, and on and on. Steaks, Triple J for sure. Jimmy Buffett's Margaretville in Pier Park is great entertainment. The Firefly has been voted the best restaurant on the beach several time although pricey.

I guess to answer one question, you will find little or nothing within walking distance. PCB is a driving beach even though we now have sidewalks.
