Well I got both sides of that argument. I lived in Daytona area five years and you do want to avoid the trashy stuff. So live in Ormond or NSB or Edgewater or even Daytona Beach Shores or something rather than Daytona. However the industry in Daytona is mostly private and a little bit less dependant on the government. I did independent work with a few small companies there and very relaxed places for the most part with no DoD ridiculous paperwork with 50 managers and so on.

In Brevard there is some less trashyness, but that dependence on DoD is now a negative I would say. Please Brevard go back to NASA or science or plain industry, we do not need anymore DoD contractors with 50 manager levels, endless paperwork, and no accomplisment outside on paper. I think there are more areas in Brevard, some better developments and so on.

There is much positive about both places but the two differ close to 100%, that is for sure.

Daytona is a total dump and an embarrassment to all those other beautiful beaches in Florida.

If Daytona is so horrible, then stay away from it. Leaves us more parking spots anyway.

There are so many "hoods" and trashy areas in this state but everyone wants to trash Daytona every chance they get. I just don't get it.

Compared to most other beach areas in the state, it does have a trashier feel and demographic. I've grown up in central FL and just call it like i see it. Seriously, have you been to melbourne? They are very similar-sized cities and the feel is night and day

Because it has a beach it can't have a hood? LOL I am not denying there are bad areas and it isn't the most glamorous city, but I would drive through the heart of it before I would parts of Orlando, Tampa, Miami etc.

I feel a lot safer in Parramore than I do Daytona Beach.

I lived in Orlando and live in Fort Myers, and both are less scary than DB.

What really gets me is why there are some really physically in shape guys and drop dead gorgeous women in this town. Why do these people choose to stay here? I know, because they are rich and can go to Orlando, St. Augustine, places outside of VC anytime they want. I suspected it before but either you are white trash poor or rich with a good job and lavish lifestyle. The in between gets nothing.
