Default Why do they call it "Dirty Daytona"

Is it to do with the crime and all that goes on downtown? Or the fact that its a party town with wild ho#ny people all over?

without looking at the website mentioned, they used to have a lot of male runaways and teenaged male prostitutes - sad

Have you been there? Yeah, Daytona is less than inviting. New Smyrna beach is FAR nicer and a lot more family friendly.

Yeah. I've spent a lot of time in Daytona and it's just..... a bit trashy compared to other beach areas. Melbourne is roughly the same size as Daytona and it's much nicer. Instead of having a city based on low-end tourism, nascar, bike week, BCR etc. you have a city based on industry/companies that have sprouted up near NASA (Lockheed Martin, GE, Northrup Grumman, Harris etc)

I grew up in the Daytona Beach area, and have never once heard the expression "Dirty Daytona". It is pretty trashy compared to a lot of other coastal cities though. Before Adventure Landing (or whatever it's called now) and Ocean Walk were built, that entire neighborhood was nothing but crackhouses and homeless people. There is still some of that I'm sure, but it's not like it used to be.

What gives Daytona its trashy image is the bikers, spring break, NASCAR, and the fact that it's kind of a vacation spot for the rowdy redneck types.

Take a trip down I-95 and get off on International Speedway Blvd I was shocked, especially at night time. South Daytona is rough.

Daytona Beach is the Epicenter of The Redneck Riviera. It also happens to be the most corrupt city in Florida. Put the two together and you see why this poor town has not been able to keep up with the times. Uncontrolled crime, homeless roaming the street. There is a massive youth crime wave due to the lack of infrastructure and funding by a corrupt City Commission who elects to instead, provide giveaways to the Daytona Capos. The Daytona capos is a group of five families that control everything that goes on within Daytona Beach. In essense, Organized crime under Color of Law. see more at http://www.DaytonaPost.com
