Hi

Just wondering if someone can give me some information on railway employment in Florida.

I know of a company called Norfolk Southern but what other railway companies operate in Florida please?

I work on the railway here as a signaller / controller in the UK and I need a warmer climate.

Thanks in advance

Look up autotrain, part of amtrak, to Sanford, FL from VA

In Miami is the tri-rail

South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA)

Those are people type transportation systems, do not know much about the regular trains, sorry.

CSX is a company that owns alot of rail down here. The central Florida commuter rail, SUNRAIL, is coming online soon. There also speculation of multiple other lines connected to SUNRAIL including a line from Miami to Orlando. There's also a alot being said about increased freight rail to the ports and throughout the state.

CSX Transportation: csxt.com
Florida East Coast Railway: fecry.com
Pinsley Company: Pinsly Railroad Company
CSX is your best bet, they have big presence in Jacksonville and Tampa and to a much lesser extent Orlando and Miami. Their corporate HQ is in Jacksonville.

NS really has very little presence in Florida, that's why I didnt mention them.

Also tri-rail and Amtrak, but I wouldnt work for them.

While you are researching all this, I would look at visa requirements to work in the US.

There have been several threads on this and the consensus seems to be it is extremely difficult coming from the UK.

This^^^. I agree about CSX being your best option if you are in fact able to come here to work.

Norfolk Southern barely breaks into Florida

It's not easy getting a job with them, competition is stiff, you have to get in with a conductor job then move up with years of training.

Like other's said, CSX has all trackage rights in Florida and their HQ is in JAX, then there is the FEC http://fecrwy.com/ they are the only two left in Florida.

Pretty much all of the NS jobs into Jax and Lake City run out of Macon and Valdosta. Jax, Simpson Yard is the terminus and origin for several trains, but 80% of the traffic interchanges with CSX or FEC in Jax, the rest is intermodal traffic for Jax Ramp and their 1 or 2 roadrailer trains which originate at Simpson yard. I think all but the yard jobs and maybe a local or 2 at Simpson are pool jobs out of Macon or Valdosta.

CSX is expanding their business and building a large new yard in Winter Haven, when done, is going to divert most of the freight and all of the intermodal from Taft Yard in Orlando to Winter Haven. So I would see more jobs coming. They are also doing a huge double track project on the S-Line between Dade City and Callahan, FL.
