Compelled to reply=me. Is a merger possible with the posts to get rid of some of the clutter?

Hi... I am Cuban... I know about the community in the Tampa as I lived in Tampa area for many years. Trust me when I tell you that very few of these people even speak Spanish. Most are 2-3 generation and many are mixed with the second largest immigrant population from the 1800s which were Italians. You can have a hispanic surname, but if you don't speak Spanish, don't know anything about your countries customs and are totally "americanized", then, you just are a good 'ole regular American to me!

Those are 2000 statistics, Palm Beach County's Hispanic population has gone way up since then. I remember when the Hispanic areas in Palm Beach County were redneck areas And of course, illegal immigrants actually account for a large amount of PBC's Hispanic population in cities like Lake Worth and West Palm Beach. In 2000 however those areas were still lower class Anglo cities, most of the Anglos that lived there (white-flight?) have moved to North Florida or to close-by counties like Martin and Saint Lucie.
Also, I heard Tampa has a smaller version of 'Little Havana' somewhere in the city.

These were 2006 stats (in 2000 Browrad was only 16 % Hispanic and PBC was only 12 %), and the "Little Havana" is known as Ybor city.

Aren't those 2006 just estimates though? I believe they only take the true census every 10 years. But even then, there are many people who do not fill it out, fill it out incorrectly, or are illegal immigrants who can't fill it out. Many cities in the central part of the county are mostly made up of illegal immigrants, for instance. The Hispanic population has definitely grew more than 2% here in the past 6 years...
I'm not too familiar with the Tampa area, I've never actually been there, but others have informed me that it's nicer than South Florida... but who knows....

Tampa was our second choice. It's more laid back than South FL, but it has its issues. I like Broward County better than the Tampa area as far as day to day life, but thats generally rare. What Tampa has that we are kind of lacking down here is historic neighborhoods, a countryside to go out to on the weekends when you wanna get away from it all that isn't Belle Glade, and in general I would say the people are nicer there. Theres actually a lot to do there from partying to actual culture/museums. If I had to do it again I would probably pick Tampa because of the cost of living, although Houston is nice...

Sad ? I think not ! They're living in the USA now and should say bye bye to the old country and become an American. If they don't want to be an American, then GET OUT !
