When I lived in Daytona I had a great time. There are bad parts to every city. This thread is unnecessary and simply another outlet to shine Daytona in a bad light when it probably doesn't deserve to be.

Here's the thing. I was not too long ago thinking Daytona was awesome(look at past posts of mine), but I cannot help but hear about the ugly side of it more and more. Maybe its family members that know some people that got involved with the wrong people.

Daytona was a lot better in the early millenium. Was it then or before when you lived here?

I thought Daytona Beach had more soul/heart back in the 60's before they turned most of the beachfront into a wall of hotel/condo highrise bunkers Also had a more vibrant pier area,now other than BikeWeek i got no time for the place and prefer locales further north, Flagler,Crescent, Anastasia..

I'm not sure what Daytona is like now adays but I have some cousins from the hood in Daytona and based upon the few times I visited them in the mid 90s as a child and what they have told me Daytona defiantly has some areas that are very nasty.

Daytona is and always has been "honky tonk!" Not sure how a cute girl working two jobs (blue collar jobs at that) is snobby or taking away from the original poster.....thread kind of derailed at that point.

Daytona is cheaper than surrounding towns, has some seedy areas, very touristy (races/bike week/beach/spring break) and caters to those visitors so what is the point again?

Rich = Donald Trump.

Heck, rich = my parents.

And none of the above would live in Daytona.

It sounds like the young lady you are referring to is working two jobs and earning her vehicle and lifestyle. It doesn't sound like she is "rich" but certainly deserves what she is working towards.

Don't fool yourself there is plenty of money in the greater Daytona Beach area. Several multi million dollar homes in the area from beachside to golf club communities. The biggest Harley dealer in the USA lived in Ormond Beach about 1000 ft from the Daytona city limits (Rossmeyer had 13+ dealerships nationwide), John Rockefeller had an estate there, countless NASCAR related folks live there and even the largest independent bottler of Coca Cola (Root family) has been in the area for decades.

The Halifax river is beautiful and you can run the river right up to St Augustine and have lunch overlooking the Lions Bridge or even up to Jacksonville for the day. It is a nice area in addition to the downtown/beach strip that it is known for.
