We are moving just to move. I hope to live there for a while but we are going to at least stay a month. If we can't find jobs in that amount of time then back to ky we go.

Welcome to Florida!!!
Yes...why would you want to live around successful, highly-educated, patriotic Americans who are selfless in their willingness to protect the nation and your rights...?

Sounds "horrible"...

The military egg heads are frequently nice enough folks but often just not interested in interacting with people who aren't their own kind.

Everyone who responds to you is only doing so out of their own experience, of course. But I think you should definitely give it a try while you are still unencumbered and feeling adventurous. Just be sure to have a nice little bundle of money to keep you afloat while you're establishing yourselves.
As far as finding jobs, you might want to reconsider the time of year you are moving. I've known quite a few people who have managed to get themselves here by working a seasonal position and if you're coming in April a lot of those types of jobs will be winding down.
"Season", at least in a lot of Florida, but not all, generally runs from around Thanksgiving/Christmas to around May.
If you come around October/November you will most likely be able to find at least a temporary Christmas help job in retail and your boyfriend could maybe get on with one of the landscaping companies who put up and take down holiday decorations. That's pretty big around where I live (Broward Co).
If I were to relocate within the state I would probably go to Sarasota or Pensacola just because they're small enough to have a friendliness to them that seems lacking in the bigger cities, but they have more job opportunities than the small towns.
Good luck to you.

Yeah - we moved here just to do it too. Two years later, we've settled down, bought a house, made some good friends and have a great job. Don't tell anybody that though. They'll say it can't be done.

"Egomaniacs"? This comment from a guy who calls himself "the awesomee"...

What's the matter, son? Did some big, bad military guy tell you that your opinion of yourself and your potential was over-inflated?

I think it's important to say that your ability to get a job here, or anywhere, depends on how your education and skill set match the needs of the area you're moving to. And when you post questions here asking about how easy or hard it is to find a job in a certain area you really need to offer people some background information on you and your boyfriend if you want a serious and credible answer.

If you're a successful RN, BCBA, or EE, I can probably help you find a good job. If your education and skill set is more along the lines of a bartender, waitress, or a secretary, you'll have to fight your way through a lot of competition all going after a very few jobs. If you're an experienced school teacher you can probably find a job, but it probably won't be in a public school. If you're a realtor you can find work, but you might not earn much income.

The point is that there are jobs down here...but not for everyone. The supply/demand curve is a fact of life in a good economy as well as a bad one. If you're great at what you do you can probably get a job in any field.

That's quite a generalization coming from someone who lives in a town where about 60% of the adult pupulation are either active duty or retired military people.

People tend to graviate toward groups of people who share their values and interests. That's not exclusive to military people. So it may look like military people tend to shy away from other military people. But in Niceville it's hard to fit into any group of adults without rubbing elbows with someone who wears or used to wear the uniform.

And the military folks do frequently stick together - it's the culture at hand, and if you aren't one of their own, have kids in the same school, or a church buddy, they often just aren't very interested in you. Their circle meets all their needs, and they don't feel the need to venture much into the civilian world beyond that.
