Fort Pierce
I am looking into relocating to Fort Pierce. Is there part of the city to avoid?
what is the average rent for 1 bed apt? any advice will be greatlty appreciated. Thanks!  |

Hello Buddro,
I have been offered a job in the Ft. Pierce area, and I like to be near the water. It is difficult to find a one bed apt for around $700? which one do you recommend; apt complex or condo? I have been to Ft. Myers..is Ft. Pierce kind of similar? Would you say that the rent will go up in the future? And thanks for your help. |

If I may ask this question: for someone making 38K/Year in Houston, Texas what would be the equivalent in Ft. Pierce area, or what would a decent salary to maintain?

Well, I lived in St. Lucie County (Port St. Lucie). Fort Pierce is an older city, but there is a major poor population and a high crime rate. Port St. Lucie is better, also check out Vero Beach or Stuart.

A lot of the "inner areas" of Ft. Pierce are druggie areas, (crack-heads & etc..) run down housing etc..
I don't even drive thru there. Yes it's an Historic ol town. But w/problems. More on the outskirts is better as (previously mentioned) Stuart is too high $$$ taxes & living expenses. . Vero is a bit better. Port St. Lucie is still a nice area. It's growing, but reasonable priced housing still can be found. |

My main concern is to find out if a 35k salary will be alright in the Fort Pierce area. I am looking to rent an apt or studio...
Would you accept 35K to move to Ft Pierce area? Please help me on making this decision. Thanks! |

Decision to Move
35K is good enough. I sense that you want to make a change in your life. Ft. Pierce is okay to work there, but like the others that have responded I wouldn't live there unless I was a millionaire because there are real nice areas in Ft. Pierce for them. You might want to use the fact that Ft. Pierce is not an attractive area to possibly get an even higher salary?
But you would really like the easy access to all the beaches and eateries. You can even drive to Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, the Keys. I use to do that on weekends then be back at work on Monday feeling like I went on vacation. And Ft. Pierce is also just an 1hr & half away from Orlando where there is even more to do. (So you might want to live in Melborne or Vero Beach) And yes, rent an apt, don't buy anything outright. Good Luck! |
