Interestingly enough, all the large python species are considered to be endangered in the wild where they normally occur. They appear in the wild in parts of Africa, all of southeast Asia, Indonesia, India and parts of China. They have not wiped out other species in their native lands.

We need to do what those populations do. There the python is important in the snake skin leather trade, for folk medicine and in some places in China for food.

Maybe if we made them valuable in some way ( for their skins) , they would be heavily hunted as they are in their native ranges. Just having people hunt them for the heck of it isn't enough. If enough people could make a lot of money off of them, their populations could probably be kept in check.

Quick, everybody start clamoring for python skin products. Humans are very good at hunting critters to extinction if there is profit motive involved.

With Pythons that big i'd be very wary of living in any suburbs relatively close to the Everglades as a snake that size could probably down a full size human innocently sun bathing in a back yard not to mention babies, young children and pets.

I would think a 165lb. snake could easily down an adult. I read a story a few months ago about how they are expanding their range. I believe they said the snakes could survive as far north as Washington D.C., and they can swim long distances in salt water.

There are about 44 species and sub species of snakes found in Mississippi, only 9 are venomous and a danger to humans.

Although 50 species of snakes are found in Florida, only 6 are venomous and a danger to humans. The remaining 44 species (and its subspecies) are harmless and should be protected for the beneficial role they play in nature.

You may be surprised to know that the same insects you find in FL are found in MS.

By the way, Palmetto bugs are just American Cockroaches and Fire ants are the most common pests of home lawns in Mississippi.

So everything you escaped is right there with you now.

QUOTE....moved out of Florida because of the snakes, coming into my home and eating my baby birds in the cage while I was sleeping... Do you know how creepy that is???? Who can feel comfortable with this kind of environment????? bugs, snakes, fire ants,,, palmetto bugs ,,, you name it, and Florida has it.. I moved to Mississippi and in the 3 and 1/2 years of living here, I have not come across any snakes,,, fire ants YES, but no snakes... UGH!!!!
THE BIG PROBLEM IS "GOVERNMENT" YES, THEY DONT CARE ONE BIT ABOUT TAKEING CONTROL OF PEOPLE BUYING SUCH HORRIBLE CREATURES AND BRINGING THEM INTO THEIR HOME AND SLEEPING WITH THEM AND WHEN THEY GET TOO BIG TO HANDLE THEY LET THEM GO INTO THE WILD........... NO ONE CARES ENOUGH...

I agree with your idea and statement of killing pythons, alligators,
but not pitbulls, unless they are a problem because most pitbulls,
do not cause problems, and can make pets that can be controlled and
trained like any other dog ! ! !
