Thanks Mich.
I can't believe it's a real place, I thought Prichard was kidding!
And it's even smaller than the town I'm presently at right now.
Looks pretty though.

I am here in Naples, FL and will be moving soon to Naples!! you see how much I like this area. I think Naples has everything you are looking for, low crime, pretty and quiet in off season (between July-October) EXCEPT not cheap.!!
IMHO, I just want to pay a bit more to be able to sleep well at night and not worry a thing about my family. The place where I live is a nice gated community too, a bit strict HOA(duh) but I always feel safe and sound here during the day or night.

and tell me that you wouldn't want to live there. By God, if I could I'd live in Yankeetown during the winter and Clayton Ga during the summer!!!

We almost bought a waterfront lot on the Withlacoocee in the late 70s and regret to this day we hadn't. Our business was in Sarasota so obviously we couldn't commute. We should have invested though! Anyway it is a beautiful natural area to be in.

Thats too broad a question. Florida is usually broken up into north, south, central interior and east and west coasts. You can move into any county and find low crime areas. The old thought was in the northern part of the state had a strong southern flair and the weather does get cool in the winter. If you want to live with people from the northeast than you would go to the east caost. The east coast is more agressive, crime rates are a bit higher in many areas but the cost of living is less. The beaches are narrower and you are on the ocean. Want to live with midwesterners than look on the west coast. The west coast is more laid back. The cost of living is generally higher. The beaches are wide and flat and the water is calm. In my opinion there is nothing like a sunset over the gulf. The central part is a mix. Agriculture is strong, there are many lakes and waterways to enjoy and many affordable areas. If you go to the Orlando area you obviously have to deal with Disney and all that it brings. The central area is also noted for bugs and critters. I know some people just can't deal with it. Then there is the Keys. Well if you could afford the Keys you wouldn't be asking, but they are absolutely gorgeous. Either way I think you made a good choice by asking first. Just remember that you will find different opinions about the same areas by different people. Ask questions to people that are new and of people that have been here. Often you will find a wide range between the two. Well good luck with your search. If I can help I would be glad too.

Try North Port on the west coast, half way between Naples and Tampa. New 3 bedroom homes as selling for 175k, vacant building lots for 30k. Excellent school system , several new schools, close to the gulf, easy access to 75.

I say Spring Hill...
It is in the path of progress and some great deals can be had by all. Not too developed yet schools, stores, restaurants...enough to do and close enuff to Tampa, Orlando etc. Check it out.
