Default Where is it cheap, low crime, quiet, pretty?

Where in Florida would be my best bet to look to move, that has low land prices (I want to build a custom home), low crime rate, is quiet and well-kept by the county and its residents?

Default Citrus County

We should know a bit more about your situation, and what you really want. However based on your thread I think that you would really like the area of Citrus County, which is about an hour drive north of tampa, and west of Orlando. Lots of land, clean, preatty and quiet!

Yep, Yankeetown is just west of Crackertown and Inglis. It's actually about 30 miles north of Crystal River - I wouldn't consider it anywhere near Tampa. Just take a look at these pictures: http://www.yankeetownflorida.com/photos.html

and tell me that you wouldn't want to live there. By God, if I could I'd live in Yankeetown during the winter and Clayton Ga during the summer!!!

isn't there a slight stigma attached to being a Yankee living in Yankeetown?

Yankeetown is located on the wide Withlacoochee River on the north Gulf Coast near the Crystal River and Homosassa. This area is known as the Florida’s “Nature Coast,” and has some of the best fishing in the country. You can charter a boat with one of the best guides in Florida, swim with the Manatees, or go canoeing, kayaking or diving. Canoe rentals and boat tours are available, making it easy to explore the area. A stroll through Yankeetown reveals elegant homes tucked away along the river. The town is being discovered more and more by nature lovers and artists who want to escape the noise and confusion of city life. Yankeetown is home to the Izaak Walton Lodge, built in 1924. This historic business serves delicious fish and seafood caught from the river and Gulf waters. Another fun point of interest is Punkin Island on Country Road 40, where the 1961 Elvis Presley movie, “Follow That Dream,” was filmed. Yankeetown is a perfect place to spend quality time on Florida’s beautiful “Nature Coast.”
