There is no "area" that is better to raise kids. You have to be involved with them all the time. We have lots of family and friends all over the US. Some of the kids are great kids, some are messed up. Some live in 'great' areas, some in the inner city.
The ones with good parent(s) turn out great, the ones with lazy parent(s) do not. It is not the area that raises kids, it is your job. There are tons of messed up kids in north FL, the midwest, the bible belt, everywhere. Just like many great kids come out of rough places. I know doctors who grew up in ghettos. Quit making excuses and raise your kids right, no matter where you live. |

But I'm not going to purposely move to an area with bad schools. I am not going to purposely move to an area where drugs are prevalent. I am not going to purposely move to an area where people are rude, and manners are not the norm. There are many more things to consider other than living near the beach or escaping harsh winters and I wouldn't be a good parent if I didn't consider those things. Sure, there are doctors that grew up in the ghetto. It doesn't mean I'm going to drag my kid there. |

I am orginally from Erie Pa, My family recently relocated here to Brandon and love it.
Prices are too high down near the beaches. HOmes, taxes, insurance etc. |

Excellent point. Buffalo has some the cheapest home prices in the nation.

Hello, sg928.
I grew up in the Buffalo area (first near Canisius College and later in Eggertsville.) I now live in Bradenton. My single family home is in an older neighborhood in west Bradenton. Homes in my neighborhood are now for sale from about $140,000 to $250,000. The area has a complete mix of ages. There is a lot of foot traffic - people are out walking their dogs and riding their bikes. They know their neighbors. It's about 15 minutes to the Anna Maria beaches. There are similar neighborhoods in Sarasota. As far as schools go: there are good, smart, dedicated teachers everywhere. There are good, solid, academic courses taught everywhere. If a parent values education and ensures that their child is taking the right courses, reading at home and socializing with the right kids, the child will get a good education, in my opinion, anywhere. I recommend the Sarasota/Bradenton area. (I have met several ex-Buffalonians here.) |

If not, maybe pack up your stuff, move to the ghetto & then raise your kids there. Then come back & let everyone know how your kids got full scholarships to Harvard. You might make some sense then. If your children attend good schools, I assume they are drug addicts & failures? NO one is a perfect parent. Stop pretending. |
