I'm also part Native American, I don't remember what tribe, but it's a tribe that was in GA and FL I think? I'll have to ask my grandfather and then I'll edit my post. But, in my opinion, as long as someone is born in Florida they are a native Floridian.
Unless you were actually born in a specific state you cannot be a NATIVE of that state. Otherwise, you may call yourself a Floridian, a New Yorker, Hoosier, etc., but not a native.

I was born in this very house in St. Petersburg, FL. I've never lived anywhere else. Hopefully that will change soon.

Not a native Floridian, but will probably always consider Florida "home". I live in NC now and it will take me a very, very long time to consider myself a "North Carolinian".

Guess there are various opinions on what is a Floridian, I always consider those who have lived or love Florida are, but seems most feel if your born there.

With that being said, DW is a Floridian by virtue of being born and raised until she was 5 years old.

She has memories of the orange groves and ocean still locked in her mind.

Her family still owns that piece of that land they raised most of their kids on as it will never be sold out of the family. No matter how much is offered.

I think most are saying you are a "Native" Floridian only if you were born here. You are most certainly a Floridian if you live here, work here & sweat here and being a native can only happen with birth...but being a Native doesn't make us special or anything like that. You have to born somewhere right!

You know you're a Floridian if...

It's not soda, cola, or pop. it's coke, regardless of brand or flavor, "What kinda coke you want?"
Anything under 95 is just warm.
You've hosted a hurricane party.
You can pronounce Okeechobee, Kissimmee, Ichnatucknee and Withlacoochee

You were 25 when you first met someone who couldn't swim.
You get angry when people say "Florida isn't really part of the SOUTH."

these made me laugh.....those statements are right on as are most of the others but the coke one had me crying in laughter because i still say that when i want a drink of any kind of carbonation from the pepsi or coke companies ect..LOL...!!!!!

Not only a native but a 5th generation Floridian on my Father's side and a 3rd generation Floridian on my Mother's side. I did spend 4 years out of state in college but never changed my residency. Beyond those years, I have lived in Florida my whole life.

In reference to the above post...Any drink that is not a coke is a "cold drink".

My father is from Washington and my mother from California but I was born in Florida and have been here all my life. Am I a native to this state? Though I consider myself a citizen I do not think of myself as a native because I am of more than one culture. What do you think?
