Fl. businesses in the past
In Fort Lauderdale...
Grew up here in the 60's, 70's and 80's left in '91. Reading lots of memories here.
Hinkles Bait & Tackle on St. Rd 84 just west of 441
Ponderosa Police Dept. 84 and 441
Bernards Pharmacy, Peters Road just west of 441
RCM58... That slide with the burlap bags you're talking about, I think it was in front of Woolco at the Lauderhill Mall, at the north end in the early to mid 70's. Been there lots of times.
Dan's Steak Subs on Sunrise and Federal Hwy at the railroad tracks. They had the BEST steak subs!!
Thom McAnn Shoe Store on Broward Blvd, just west of 441
Gooney Golf on 441 north of Peters Road

You could be right about the slide its been a long while.
The attached picture is from the filming of the movie Safe At Home 1963, corner of Sunrise Blvd and A1A. The Elbo Room which is still operating and the Barber Shop and Drug Store to the right of it which are not. I think its cool because no other buildings were built yet just south of these. Anyone that wants can pull up the live cams at the Elbo Room today, one inside at the bar where you can watch the live bands, one on the patio and one facing the beach. In 1963 the Elbo Room was also known for serving up a good burger.

Holiday House downtown and then in Winter Park are both gone. Does anyone have any suggestions of something to replace Morrison's, Picadilly, and Holiday House? I love that kind of food!

I moved from Jacksonville in 1984, but I still have very fond memories of Cisco's Pizza, Bumpers Junction arcade, and a seafood restaurant on one of the main drags, I think it was called Captain Sailmaker's or something? That one might still be there as far as I know. Was on the way to the beach. But man, Cisco's Pizza, that was the best!!!!!!!!

Anyone remember the diplomat east, west, and inn. The east was "imploded" in 1998 to make way for the westin diplomat monster. The food in the easts coffee shop was the greatest. The rice pudding was world famous, and the "saltsticks" made me really kosher!!! The anacapri on us1 in ft. Lauderdale. The stouffers rest. Was out of this world. Now there is a "strip" office plaza there. The woolfie's rest. In miami, and accross from the now galleria mall. In the 60's the mall was an open type shopping plaza, with jordan marsh. Boy do i miss wolfies. Thanks for the memories guys!!!!
