I recently received a visit from Cape Coral Police, telling me that my neighbor had reported the house I live in as vacant and that I had left my car there. The neighbor wanted it towed away. Is there a code that prohibits me from parking my car on my lawn and do you have any suggestions on how I can get my neighbor to stop the constant complaining. He has done nothing but complain since I moved in, I don't bother anyone, I go to work, come home and keep to myself. Before the car issue, he stopped me at my mailbox to tell me that I needed to clean the spider web off or he would have to report me. Is there a code for that too? I have searched the web site, but I am unable to locate any codes for parking on my own grass. My car is not a junker.

If you live where there is a Homeowners Association, then I would definately contact them for a current copy of the Rules and Regulations.
Why are you parking on your lawn? Why can't you park in your driveway or in your garage?
Most people would agree, that having people park their vehicles on their front lawns makes a neighborhood look trashy. I've seen neighborhoods where people park their pickup trucks in the front yard, and it makes me think of the banjo song from "Deliverance".

Call your city code department. There probably is a law against parking on the lawn.

Why would you park on the lawn, anyway?

Sure. Make sure your home is kept up as nice as the ones around you. Make sure the grass is green, the yard mowed, no junk outside, and nice and clean. Make sure you have window treatments and not sheets covering the windows.

Just had it happen to me not long ago. I got written up for parking on the grass. I didn't even know but there is an ordnance that says you can't. It seems you have to have a clean non dirt surface as a drive way in Fort Lauderdale. I actually got written up for a bunch of things at the same time resulting from parking a wrecked car on the property.

The car just got wrecked and I had not even had it looked at yet when the code guy saw it. But once one of those guys get on your property there are always things they find no matter how perfect you think things are. My advice, correct the problem and get them out of your life as quickly as you can.

My parents live next to a mentally ill couple who do the same thing. They call Team Metro constantly and even throw trash in their yard when they see the code inspector parked out front. I have caught them on video doing this. You can do your best to clean your yard and take the time to keep your car off the grass, but if the neighbor keeps making trouble threaten him with a lawsuit. Harrassment is illegal. Have you had a visit from code enforcement yet?

Most cities do have ordinances prohibiting parking cars on lawns and easements, and rightfully so. I would also be upset if my neighbor felt it was a good idea to park their car in the yard as it detracts from the appearance of the neighborhood. It doesn't matter if the car is a "junker" or not. A lawn isn't a parking lot...it's a LAWN.

Your right and you don't have to do much to prove it. They have created their own paper trail and record. You may be surprised how fast it will stop once they get a letter in the mail of possible action against them. The city gets pretty sick of these kinds of people and it can move from a civil thing to a criminal thing resulting from them making false reports.

I am not one to complain but there is a house in my neighborhood with at last count has 9 cars in the yard parked everywhere. There is like five Mexican families living there, in the one house. I doubt the owner even knows it. I guess as long as the rent check arrives they are happy and don't check into what is going on. It could be an out of town owner.
