Are there any rural counties near St. Petersburg? Where could one go to get away from the city? I would imagine that most of the coastal area is built up--how far inland does one need to go to find an area with less city?

Default rural areas in and near St. Petersburg

There are several large city, county and state parks. Check out Fort DeSoto, Weedon Island, Honeymoon Island. South of St. Pete there are some less developed rural areas and more parks. Look for a list of State Parks at myflorida.com and check the websites for Pinellas, Manatee, Hillsborough, Sarasota Counties.
