Boca Raton X Fort Lauderdale: where should we move?
My husband and I are currently living in South America, had lived in New York City, and are planning on moving to either Boca Raton or Fort Lauderdale in 2008. But we just can't decide which.
We have a toddler, so school quality is a high priority, public or private.
We like and are used to big cities, so I keep thinking Ft Lauderdale would be a better option. But then I read that Boca Raton is much safer, cleaner, more upscale, has better schools...
Both seem to have equally bad traffic, right?
I am a NY attorney interested in working with Immigration Law, my husband is a Sport Journalist especialized in Football. We speak Spanish.
We have excellent investment income, and would be looking for a 600K 4/2 house or condo.
So, which city do you guys think would be the one for us, BC or FL?
THANKS!!

Well, definitely Boca Raton. Fort Lauderdale itself is no place to raise children. Some of it's surrounding areas are, but Boca Raton is one of those surrounding areas. Boca is a good choice for what you are looking for.

Oh come on, Parkland is no comparison to Boca Raton. Same with Weston. And that doesn't have traffic. If Boca were nicer than Weston than I would probably live there right now. Definitely more to do in Boca though.

Compare virtually every factor. Schools, crime, appearance, lack of homeless people begging for money at every intersection, traffic, for the same cost. Boca's key advantage is that it's east and has tons of upscale shopping and restaurants. Not trashing Boca, it's definitely among the nicest, I would recommend it to OP over anywhere, but just saying. Palm Beach County also has bigger dumps than Broward (does Broward have a Lake Worth or Riviera Beach?). Not denying that we have some big dumps, but they aren't quite up to Belle Glade level. I have never had my windshield washed by a hobo in Weston, and I live here. Can't say the same for Boca Raton, and I don't live there. I just couldn't live with that every day, but it's definitely the OP's best option.
Lets put it like this, if I had 600 grand to spend, I might consider Parkland over Boca because I don't really want to be in the middle of the traffic and congestion but still would want to be close to the amenities, still have good schools.

OK, if you say so. I looked at parkland before I bought in West Boca. I wanted more land though and so I sold and bought in Paddock Park 1.
Unless I wanted to be in the isles, which is beyond my means, I wouldn't invest 1 dollar in broward cnty. Not one dollar.
Frankly, I like the west coast better now. Less crowded, more laid back. Big discount in comparison to the east coast. But broward? When I was 25 y.o and single, yes. In my 30's and 40's and spending real money? Palm Beach Cnty all day long.
You can spend your money in broward though. Enjoy!
