I went to Target durning christmas and evidently they hire people who don't speak English PERIOD.. I asked where something was from two ladies stocking the shelves.. They shrugged their shoulder and flat out said no habla engles. NONE. That is just amazing to me. HOW did they even get hired? Everyones moving out.. jobs suck, they're low pay, no season change, too much traffic and building.. roads constantly under construction, crime is going up up and away , snobs everywhere. Good luck living on 50K.. its gonna be hard, your like section 8...The apts are either too much or they don't rent to someone who makes too much.. Imagine that.. We tried to rent some nice apts , well we thought were nice before we left and becasue we made over 30k COMBINED we were over the limit to rent.. MANY places were like that, in the end we had to get a roomate and get a really expensive apt.

Have you been to McDonalds, Target, or Walmart anywhere in the US lately? Almost none of the employees speak English so don't hold that against Naples.
We took a summer trip all the way up through NH, MA, NY, NJ, PA, NC, SC, GA......every McDonalds had workers who did not speak English. A few had some high school kids who could not work the registers. Every order was a game of how many items did they actually get right!
Road construction? Every single state. Snobs everywhere? Ditto, seems like 80% of Americans have become stuck up.
Naples has its problems but don't single it out for using cheap labor, construction everywhere, and snobby attitudes. That is now a nationwide phenomenon.

The funny thing is that I have found customer service people are more apt to speak English here then they are in places with a much, much smaller Hispanic population.Sometimes its broken English, but they really try. I mean there is an exception here and there but you are right, this is a nationwide problem. Stopped at Mcdonalds in Florence, SC? Guess what, no speaky English. Panera Bread in Fairfax County, VA? No speaky english, had to get someone else to take my order.Cashier at Kroger in Columbus, Ohio? No speaky english. These are my most recent experiences, but I have similar all over the country. This is truly a nationwide problem. All I know is I hardly speak a word of Spanish and I don't have any problems communicating with customer service people and the local population here, but I have found a few aren't willing to give the heavily accented people a chance.
I have had language barrier issues in Naples before...

We stopped in a McDonalds in West Chester, PA. A great college town. The college right down the street. The population is 80% white, 20% African americans.
Every worker spoke only Spanish and I beleive were all Guatamalans. Not one college kid on the crew, not one African American, not one high school school kid. It took us 10 minutes to order and we ended up pointing to the pictures.

I don't want to go off-topic, but:
Is this a self generated problem? Many business owners hire international workers legally, so is the business owners hiring legally the personnel just to make more money? I know of a few places in Destin that use international workers not only hispanics, just to make more money...
Many of the large companies have to hire legal immigrants based the company protocols.

Have to agree about the new money part. I'm not gonna lie, SW FL seems like a strange place.
Which is worse in your opinions; SW FL or SE FL?

I would never move back to SE Fla. They could hold me down and threaten to stick pins in my eyes if I didn't move back. I would be blind today if that happened

ok, getting a very good picture of the negatives of the Naples area... what are the positives of living there? Seriously, ya have the beach and weather - what else? Any other attractions - natural and/or man-made? Restaurants to recommend - good/bad? Better to live what section of town, where to avoid? Thanks...

I think this has gone way off topic.
The OP asked about Naples, and I gave him my opinion.
"Lot of white trash, in new money clothing, being crass on the public roads."
But no, not every Walmart has Spanish-speaking employees. In Knoxville, I haven't see any.
