I also want to add, a few years ago while me and family spent a week in Clearwater Beach in mid July, I was outdoors everyday and thought the weather there was marvelous! We return to Ohio and get out of the car and within 10 minutes of being back home, we realized how much "cooler" FLORIDA was.... of all places

It does get pretty hot up here in August.... It's been known to break the 100 mark some summers..
As for swimming up in NJ.. Were have a couple beaches up here that are very clean... Island beach state park has pretty nice water.. There have been days when the water is very clear... It just doesn't warm up to like 70 until August.... Then the summer is over... But when it's warm, I'd rather swim there then Marco or Sanibel... I just don't like brown water... Especially when you don't know whats around you... Gotta respect the wild life down there... Miami and spots in the Keys I've seen are on another level though.. I'd take them anyday over NJ.. I've never seen Clearwater, Sarasota, Tampa area, and Pannhandle..

Supposedly, panhandle beaches are some of the nicest in the state. I've been to Destin, but that was in college...so I don't remember much. I have to agree with whomever posted that Captiva and Sanibel are gorgeous. That's how I remember Marco. It became pretty crowded. Although we have property there, we haven't been back much since 04. We rent it out.

Yeah there were times this summer when Ohio (Cincinnati general area Tri-State) had heat emergencies up here, it was so hot n humid. They even set up "cooling" shelters for ones who weren't fortunate to have AC. So Floridians, IT GETS BAD up here at times! As for Clearwater, I loved it really... I don't know what the waters are like today, but when I visited a few yrs back they were a beautiful clear emerald green color. And I'm with you, I like to see whats swimming around my feet and in Clearwater you could! Could see the sandy bottom A lot say you can't comment on here less you've actually been someplace, but people's pics and video's don't lie, and Sarasota's beaches (esp. Siesta Key area) look MARVELOUS!! I can't wait to come down and see for myself soon. But Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater was a beautiful area too in my opinion. Loved the water everyyyywhereee.

jobs in Gulf Breeze/Navarre?
Hi, have some questions?
We are considering moving to Gulf Breeze or Navarre, near Pensacola. Just don't want to be in the Escambia County schools. We like a nice quiet neighborhood, not like where we live where kids are everywhere committing petty crime. Seems like there are a lot of empty houses in GB/Nav. and many saying "as is." I am assuming they aren't running from anything except what they are running from up here in the Phila, PA suburbs, which is the crazy loans they got for inflated houses? I believe I read that FL was one of the harder hit areas, but I was thinking more south FL, not the Panhandle area. But it does look like many new ones were built, as they did up here, during the boom. Does anyone know for sure that that is all it is? They are avoiding foreclosure by selling quickly? Or is there some other impending doom that I should know about?
Also, are there any good jobs there? We went to college down there, and absolutely loved it! Just then, jobs weren't an issue! We would love to move back with the kiddies. It is just way too cold here, and the taxes are out of control. BTW, how are the taxes in Santa Rosa County? I've been told that FL has high real estate taxes, due to retirees not having to pay them. Is that true? We are kind of at a point right now where we can make the move here in the next year, but need to have a solid, decent job for my husband. Anything about $40,000 or more would work. He does engineering right now, but may change industries as that is a difficult one due to the many different specialties, and you can't often interchange them. It's kind of a pain in the neck that way, plus he isn't degreed in it, but has 8 years of experience now there. I can do many things part-time, I usually just do the p/t thing to make a little extra for, well, the extras! So mostly his job matters, how are jobs there, is there much in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, or Navarre area or is the lack of good jobs a reason for moving out?
Thanks for any answers!

My advice....
1. Be careful when you ask if there is doom. It's subjective, and from my experience on this board, you'll get a lot of doom and gloomers. Keep an open mind.
2. Yes, all of FL is experiencing backlash from the flooded housing market. The empty houses for the most part in FL are from out of country, out of area, out of state speculators who bought for profit, and not can't sell.
3. Jobs are not plentiful here, but engineers do quite well in FL. Thanks in part to the surge of commercial, residential and explosive areas..plus, loads of military. I can't say for sure regarding that area per say...
4. Lack of good PAYING jobs is what has hurt Florida. People came down here, paid inflated prices for a home, and found they weren't going to bring in the same salary here as they did back home.
If you love it in FL, you will continue to love FL...just do all your research and job searches PRIOR to moving down...or rent first, b/c you can leave if you don't find what you are looking for. Good luck!
