Florida Vehicle Registration & Titling - FL Car Registration Guide - DMV.ORG

What does the state of Florida charge for auto registration

To register your car for the first time in the State of Florida, the process is pretty simple: Just bring the original title, proof of required insurance, and all applicable fees to your nearest county tax collector's office or license plate agency. If you're renewing registration, bring your renewal notice in place of the original title.You can also renew your vehicle registration online or by calling 1-866-467-3639 (GO-RENEW).

Vehicle registration is valid for one year, a period which usually begins in the vehicle owner's birth month. (Fleet vehicles owned by a company all use the month of June.) Even if you register your car late, you'll still be required to pay the full registration fee as follows:

* Automobiles, private use (2,499 pounds or less): $27.60

* Automobiles, private use (2,500 to 3,499 pounds): $35.60

* Automobiles, private use (3,500 or more pounds): $45.60

* Trucks, private and commercial (1,900 pounds or less): $27.60

* Trucks, private and commercial (2,000 to 3,000 pounds): $35.60

* Trucks, private and commercial (3,001 to 5,000 pounds): $45.60

* Transfer of a license plate from another vehicle: $4.60

* Issue of a new metal license plate: $10

* Initial registration fee: $100

At least FL is cheap for that. No emmision tests, and the florida no fault law just expired so there is no mandatory PIP insurance anymore if you own your car.

it is simple in FLA! As it is to get your drivers license.. To get a new one up here I had to show not only an origional birth certificate not a copy but 2 other forms of identification PLUS my marriage license to prove name change! I wonder if that is norm in northern states and Fla just makes it overly easy?

No, the same here in Florida... if you change your name you gotta show proof with Original License and Original marriage certiificate if you already have a license. To get a license you gotta show the birth certificate also.

I just gave them my NYS license and my Social Security card. If you are from certain states, they will take that out of state license in lieu of other ID's.

Incidentially, my original birth certificate was lost 50 years ago by the VA. Long story. They only have my birth listed in the Birth Index Book. I went through a lot of red tape with this 30 years ago getting a passport. Fortunately, when I reapplied last year for a new passport, they were willing to use my old one as "proof". If I ever need to use an original birth certificate, my passport is going to have to suffice.
