Hello! My husband, toddler and I will be moving to southeast Florida this summer and need your help deciding which neighborhood we should move to. My husband will be working in Fort Lauderdale but he will only work at the office two days a week so he doesn't mind a commute. We really want to live very close to the beach (ideally walkable), somewhat walkable to restaurants & shops, anywhere between Del Ray beach and south beach. We an afford up to $2,000/month in rent. Any suggestions or opinions would be so helpful!!

Check out the town of Surfside which is towards the north end of the Miami Beach stretch, just south of the Bal Harbour area's shops and restaurants (walking distance) plus it's own nice little downtown area. It's a 20 mile drive from downtown Ft Lauderdale. Visit Surfside Florida Shop, Dine, Stay

I think maybe you didn't get a ton of replies because that's such a broad span of area. Ft. Lauderdale itself is really not kid-oriented. They have one science museum and the occasional festival, but that's about it. And outside of the small downtown area, a lot of Ft. Lauderdale is crime-ridden. The town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is cute. Hollywood does have a lot of family activities and events, many which are free. Miami does have a lot of museums, shops, etc. Brickell Key is a great area but is sometimes pricey rent-wise. I have read recently that Deerfield Beach is becoming a popular family area, but I don't know too much about it.

South Florida is NOT kid friendly.
$2,000 monthly rent is nothing, expect at least $3,500.00 monthly rent for a decent 2/2 in a good area near the beach.
Surfside is NOT cheap !!

Best Wishes
