That's unfortunate. Publix trips always seem to be visiting day for me. I run into my children's teachers, my neighbors, and we were helping one of the young stock guys figure out a character in a movie this past Saturday. I'm in Orlando though. That might be the difference.

[quote=121804;1853605] My husband who never complains stated this afternoon at Publix how angry & grumpy people are around here; scrowls on their faces.

What a sad thing to say. I'm sorry that you aren't happy here, and I hope that you find a chilly paradise for yourself soon.

I can relate to what everyone is saying in this thread. I'm moving next week to Denver, CO. I've only lived in Florida for 2 years, but that was long enough for me to realize that the heat/humidity isn't for me. Whatsoever.

I completely understand, HockeyMom, I get tired of the palm trees myself. I purposefully bring the A/C up so I can snuggle into my favorite sweater and pretend I'm somewhere where the air is cool and crisp. (I'm originally from WI.)

While trying to find the perfect place for me to relocate, I became so confused reading all of the posts on this website. As soon as I'd decided on one place, I'd read a post about the weather/people/economy and then I'd write that city off and move on the the next one. I went through almost every city in the US....Until I realzied that (1) there is NO perfect place & (2) Everyone's idea of perfect is different. One person's paradise can be another person's "H-E-Double Hockey Sticks".

My family has lived in Florida well past a decade now, and though they currently live in the Jacksonville area, they contemplate going further south because it gets too "cold" in the wintertime. To each their own...

As for getting used to the cold, I think the best defense (as one other poster recommended, also) is to dress appropriately. Layer like an onion, make sure to get your head & hands covered, and drink lots of hot cocoa (schnaaps optional, but recommended!)

Without a doubt. Our years spent in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire seemed like 5 months of fun and 7 months of blues.

Just heard from my sister in PA, her toddler just got the first cold of the season that is going around his preschool. She said her temperature on the back porch at 6 this morning was 28 degrees!

That is another thing I don't miss, running nosed kids! I can't remember the last time our little ones have been sick in S. Florida.

Everyone has there own likes and dislikes.

I am in Florida a couple time a month for a day or so and spent no less then 4weeks on vacation in Florida, then once in a while we spent a few days at the BIL's near Ft Lauderdale.

Here is my take.

For me personally I am sick of being cold, sick of ice and snow and sick of having a sinus infection, sore throat, earaches etc. My wife and kids go through colds almost throughout the winter passing it around. I can leave Ohio after Christmas and come to Florida for New Years with a bad sinus infection and within a day or so it is gone.

What I see the different in the two is this. People here live inside for almost 8 months a year, we have a ton of depressed people because of the grey skies, no sunshine and many doctors have told me they presrcribe medicines for this, heck they are now giving out disability for the seasonal disorder.
Last year I cannot tell you how many times the temperature dropped from the day of 70 to a low at night in the 20's. It is not good on your health.
We get June, July and August of decent weather and maybe some of Sept is mild with some sunshine, but after that all I hear from people is I cannot wait until Christmas is over so it will get warm again.
Talk about grumpy people, I bet ours will beat yours anyday, they are flat out mean and nasty, most of them get depresses because of the cold weather and try to go shopping around these people, they are nuts waiting to be cracked.

I always feel like I can adjust to the warm weather, I never get too hot even at the beach when its 95+, but that is me. But I can tell you I always get chilled to the bone, today I didnt take a jacket with me and went to lunch and was cold, came home and went out to rake leaves and still hours later I am chilled to the bone from being cold. I can always get cool but I seem to neve rbe able to get warm.

There has to be a happy medium for everyone, we always thought we wanted to move to Myrtle Beach if we didnt move to Florida, well all it took was one trip to MB in January and DW said there is no way she would ever move here because of the chill in the air.

Personally people I have known who moved here from Florida and lower Georgia dont stay long, they cannot take the cold and want to get back to the heat. I also dont know myself anyone who has moved to Florida and wanted to come back to Ohio, one did move out of Florida but moved to Charleston SC because of a job transfer and chose that job over a much higher paying job in Dayton Ohio because of the weather here.

Sure there are worse states for the cold then here, but for us this is the main reason we are looking in the central mid Florida areas because of the imaginary line of temps and of course other reasons as well.

No one wants to be miserable, but I cannot still today figure out why someone would ever move to southern Florida and they knew they couldnt handle the heat and then want to move back to a cold weather state when all they have to do is move into northern Florida or lower Georgia.

Gosh, if I had to do it all over again I would have moved to the heat 26+ years ago when I wanted to and wouldnt have had the deal with the miserable weather.

Everyone is different but for me I can guarantee unless a family disaster happens once we leave Ohio we will never move back here.

Even my 9 year old is already complaining about being cold at recess and they make them go out.

Many people I personally know can adjust to the heat somewhat but I have yet to find too many who can adjust to being cold.

I don't like anything below 60 and I am comfy in the 80's !
My entire family is counting down the days to being never cold again.

If you love the heat so much please turn your air conditioner off for one year. Experience the true Florida, like I did. I was sick most of the time, could not sleep, had migraines. and always get fat and weak over the April-November summer. Only 4 good months of the year, maybe 2 weeks when you can dig hiles, cut wood or plant trees without soaking yourself in sweat and having your clothes rot and fall apart in a matter of weeks. Don't get me wrong, I prefer tropical plants/fruit to that up north, but since most of it has been bulldozed for development and we live in artificial climate control, I see no advantage of Florida's weather other than not having to shovel snow. For that I will save one year's worth of Florida taxes and buy a nice skid loader.

If you look at the stats though, Ohio is ranked at the top of least amount of sunny days. Its cloudy up here a lot and when it rains, it drizzles for like 2-3 days at a time. NO downpours and be done, no... it rains off and on, with gray skies for like 3 days. But... Florida is too damn hot & humid for me though. I wonder which state has the worst sinus problems though?

What part of FL? Why? I just love to know what makes FL appealing to others, I do love FL too but being a native I long for some different scenery! I apologized if you were already asked this, I have not yet read the entire thread?

Default Rain Rain

My daughter born and raised in FL has gone to TN for college, she's used to sun everyday and the heat. Well, talked with her on the phone, says it rains and rains most of the time, cloudy, windy and its cold, 38 at night and a high of 58, she's constantly sniffing, coughing, says although its heat nearly year round here in FL she'll take it over rain and cold. A true Floridian my daughter.
