I know what you are saying about the FL lifestyle, we have friends still down there trying to sell their homes and get out.... some are just a step away from foreclosure. If you are looking at Knoxville the winter temps get a little lower there than where I live. I'm 130 miles West of knoxville and 65 miles south east of Nashville, the winters here are mild.
In knoxville you would be in the heart of "Big Orange Country" Vols..lol, but I think you would still be OK being a Gator..lol. People around here are surprised I'm not a Vols fan, I'm a big FSU fan (ducking head lol). Have you checked out the Murfreesboro or Cookeville areas? Both are college towns also, the winters here in middle TN are mild. We do have a lot of Gator fans in TN so I don't think you would have a problem.

Good to know and I'll let the FSU thing go....till the 30th anyway! I'll look at those places you mentioned, I was just thinking the job market might be stronger in Knoxville. I work for UF now (accountant/credit/collections) so I was thinking of something along those lines.

The two towns I mentioned are much smaller than Knoxville, check in the Knoxville forum and I'm sure the folks there can give you a much better run down on the job market than I can. Over all I think Nashville has the stronger job market than anywhere around here, you can check the Nashville forum if you may be interested in that area. Thanks for letting me slide on the FSU thingy...lol

IMO I hate it when the summer ends up here in NJ... All the stuff I enjoy doing outdoors during the summer comes a close... And it gets cold here in Winter... January/Feb your talking 10-20 degrees everyday... You freeze your butt off running to the car in the morning... And if the car isn't warmed up... Your gonna be shaking until the heat comes out...
I'll take the florida winter anyday... Not too mention it can hit higher temps up here in August... The worst of both worlds..
New Jesey temp record 106 degrees
Miami Florida 99 degrees

I lived my whole life in FL (born and raised in Miami, college in Gainesville), so I was concerned about this thing people call "winter" when I moved to NC last year. What I learned is that I actually like the change of seasons. NC piedmont winters are not too bad, and if you have the right clothing for the weather conditions, everything will be OK. Now, if I had to sit around outside all day in the dead of winter it wouldn't be too comfortable, but for normal day to day activities, the cold weather didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.
Driving on hills with ice - now that is a whole different story!

It is called wearing the right CLOTHES (layering). Tell me how I adjust to 4months of 90+ degrees? Take off all my clothes?????
I have gone out when the wind chills were below zero. I sit inside when the heat index here is 110.

man, you people make it seem like people are subhuman or something if they like the cold and get used to it. what's so strange about that? there are people who can't get used to the heat too...

I lived in NY for over half a century. Traveled many a hockey game all over NJ. It isn't 10-20 degrees EVERY DAY in January/February. Stop trying to fool people who have lived in the area. Actually last year it was 65 degrees. lol It actually was COLDER in Naples than up in NY. My husband had the heat on when it was 42 at night. I believe the rest of Florida was below freezing at this time. When I came down here last January I wore the same clothes I had on in NY. You want to wear shorts when it is in the 50s, be my guest.
BUT it HAS been 90+ degrees everyday since June up until 2 weeks ago. That is without the heat index. Wait until you try to touch your car coming out of work and you burn your hands it is so hot.
You can KEEP it. I would rather have the 10 degrees. I can always wear more clothes, but how many clothes can you take OFF because it is as hot as hell.

I have to agree with HockeyMom.
You can always put on more clothes. You just can't take off all your clothes. Gosh, Florida has enough issues!

wow!!! gr82bagator, you are like the north/n.central fla salesman on this forum, and now you too are considering leaving for the hills??? that kinda says something when a promoter of north/n.central fla like yourself is thinking about leaving... off to the hills everyone is going... pretty soon tn/sc/nc will be like fla and everyone will be moving to wva or mississippi to escape.
