Well I would rather move to Oregon but their economy isn't any better than ours, from what I hear at least! Alas, I think I am but a dreamer and I will still be in NCF posting to this forum 20 years from now! I do love my state but it is slowly or maybe already is NOT my state anymore. My husband grew up in Hialeah "little Havana"...my kids are growing up in "little NJ"...pardon me I'm not quite sure what cities my neighbors came from or if I could even say/spell them...LOL
No but really it is just getting obscenely high to live here even in the BEST part of the state!

Believe it or not...Bronson....It is about 25 miles sw of Gainesville (on the way to Cedar Key). It is seriously just a dot on a state road map. We got 911 address in the late 90's! Seriously, everyone I meet lately are from NJ or are from Miami after moving there from NJ! I just can't figure out how they find my small town!
and this town has a very "southern" feel so it's easy to spot someone from NJ, they have a different "attitude" like here we believe you catch more flies with honey or should I say suga, in my best southern drawl of course, and they just say the hell with suga & the hell with catchin em...just kill the damn flies! Well you know what I mean.....heck I guess I could learn a thing or 2 from em!

I think working for a college is a wonderful job. I work here at U.T. in Knoxville.
As Jim280 said, Cookeville and Murfreesboro are also nice college towns that don't have quite the rabid Big Orange following that Knoxville has. Also, the president of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville is an old Florida Gator himself. You might want to check out the employment possibilities at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville or MTSU in Murfreesboro. I personally prefer Cookeville--it reminded my parents of what Gainesville used to be like a looooong time ago when my dad was a student at UF in the 1950s. But MTSU is a much larger school than Tennessee Tech and would probably have more job possibilities. I don't happen to care for Murfreesboro because its breakneck growth rate reminds me too much of what I don't miss about Florida.
Good luck!

Most all the people that have moved up here from FL are "halfbacks", so far I have only talked with 3 people that are native floridians. TN is a hot spot right now as far as people moving from FL as well as other parts of the country.
My neighbor has a cousin who is a realtor and he tells me there's several developers moved here from FL, from what I hear the state has been buying some land to keep outside developers from getting it.

We get a lot of questions on the Tennessee forum about these "developments." A lot of them seem to be developed by Florida people and marketed to Floridians. They offer free trips to see their property.
In fact, we have a lot of sales people on the Tennessee forum that pose as people that just bought and our gushing about their new property. It got to the point where the poor moderator had to shut some of the threads down.
A few locals have said that the properties are suspect, at best. They seem to be buying up land in the middle of nowhere, with a long drive to hospitals and other places.
It seems, no matter the economy or market, there is always somebody out there trying to make a buck off of someone.

i have met a lot of floridians in nc, many who were really good ppl that loved florida, and perhaps birn and raised there, but just didnt like the changes, the ppl moving in, etc... you know, good hard working ppl that just needed to move to creat a better quality of life for them... the ppl that i hear in publix that are rude and obnoxiuos, no, i dont mind if they moved to flarida and now want to move to tn
