The people that do well in Tennessee are native Floridians, native Southerners, and people that didn't like Florida because of what it had become. In other words, people that didn't like the overcrowding and rude people. Those looking for a laid-back, traditional Southern atmosphere love Tennessee.
But those that moved up here looking for cheaper housing prices, and that's it, well, a lot of them aren't so happy. It's not for everybody.

so true, hiknapster. ppl that are floridians (natives especially) have seen the changes that have happened to our state (florida)... they dont like the traffic, rudeness, etc. that has now become so common in florida. it wasnt always like this i can assure you that ppl that have lived here for a long time have seen the changes, and most are unhappy about it. they may find tn,sc,nc appealing b/c it has many great attributes that fla used to have. the ppl moving here to flahrida now, may see that it really is expensive to live here, and now they want something cheaper. now they head to tn instead b/c "it's so cheap." pretty soon, and i hate to say it (b/c the thought of relocating back up that way has crossed my mind), but i think if it continues, tn/sc/nc will get crowded, ppl will become annoyed and aggravated, and it will be filled with rude folks who moved south and now bring this with them. hiknapster, the thought of ppl that you have mentioned in ft myers... i'm sure if they moved to tn and into your town (b/c now ft myers is expensive and tn is cheaper), you would probably want to leave all over again...

i have met a lot of floridians in nc, many who were really good ppl that loved florida, and perhaps birn and raised there, but just didnt like the changes, the ppl moving in, etc... you know, good hard working ppl that just needed to move to creat a better quality of life for them... the ppl that i hear in publix that are rude and obnoxiuos, no, i dont mind if they moved to flarida and now want to move to tn

Like I said I am probably just dreamin! Florida is a part of me....the south is a part of me and I am so proud of where I come from. I just wish Florida could hold on to more of that "southern" feel, its getting very watered down and that's just sad!

Now most parts of Florida have lost the southern feel. Its just a large sales pitch now. Its sad how it changed.

i agree, but somehow when i tell ppl it has changed and it's not the same place, i got negative marks for it. i guess the newbies like the "new fla" instead of the "old fla"... perhaps the new fla reminds them of where they came from... it's disappointing, actually.

It is truly frustrating even the smallest rural towns in Florida are now feeling the effects.

yup. ppl like us see it and know it, but the newbies dont care... i mean, south fla feels like nyc. everyone from up north can come down and they can have just what they had up there, with better weather. to them it's great, as many always talk about how things are better up there and how they did things up there, well now they pretty much turned fla into the place they left. they have the atmosphere and ppl they miss up there now down here, with better weather.

Thanks for being so honest, it is very hard for someone who has been in Florida for a very long time to get used to moving north. Many posters in the NC forum that were from Florida post they are not adjusting to the move well. ( I know your in Tenn.. I read the NC/SC forums allot )

I'll take the cold over the heat anyday. For us girls at least we can always wear the extra sweaters and jackets rather than strip the clothes off like the guys can!!! Lol...
Of course that also depends on what beach you are visiting!! It does get cold, I am also originally from Ohio, but been down here in this Florida heat & humidity way TOO long...
Can't wait to exit this state and go back to winter, change of seasons and just good people
