It takes time. And, yes, it is also physiological.

I grew up in Florida and i ended up having to move to Tennessee about 10 years ago....stayed there for 4 years, but i never really got "used" to it (the cold) but my body expected it to come around the fall season after 2 years of being there....i guess i didnt get used to it either because i have bad arthritis in my knee and i guess the pain made the cold not seem as bad.....believe me Nashville had some cold days up there in the winter back then ...it got in the 20's alot and even in the teens a couple times each winter.....i wouldnt mind feeling it again but i would rather not live in it with the arthritis

That's a really fair & good question Not asked sarcastically, either, thanks!
I think those who can tolerate the cold temps but have difficulty tolerating warmer temps ask the same of people who live down here year round.
I grew up in what is called the "Snowbelt" area of Ohio & just am use to it. There are many days were it is very bitter & windy; not fun nor enjoyable in the least bit. Sometimes, there can be major snow drifts which can be a pain to deal with when shoveling. But when May rolls around & the leaves start to show their faces again...it's very pretty as is fall, which is just beautiful.
But, there is a lot of variety throughout the winter & spring in regards to temps & weather conditions. I prefer variety to SW FL weater. It is just constant 90 degree plus and humidity day after day for months on end. Just not for me.
We leave in less than 48 hrs to finally move back to Ohio (I've been gone for about 6 years) & cannot wait. The area I am moving to is what I consider "home", weather & all.

I am from New York (NYC & LI). Although it can get very cold and snowy, being surrounded by water moderates the cold and snow a lot, unlike inland areas. It can be anywhere from 5 degrees to 60 in the winter. Yes, I feel the cold a lot (weigh only 105 lbs), but I have learned that layering clothes really does work. I have been outside when the wind chills have been below zero and don't feel it since I am dressed properly.
I cannot "dress" for all this heat. 90+ degrees every single day for 4 months straight is unbearable. The only thing you can do is stay inside in a/c. Honestly, I had no desire to go outside, whereas when it was below freezing in NY, I went out all the time. It certainly wakes you up. I simply dressed for the weather. Here in Florida I fell like I am asleep all the time with this heat.
Ever since I was a child, I have dreaded summer and heat. Yeah, it can get brutal in NYC with buildings and blacktop, etc. However, you know that is not going to last FOREVER.
I will never get used to year round summer. Personally, I prefer 40 and 50 degrees to even 70 degrees. Forget 80 or 90 degrees.
I guess I am defintely in the WRONG climate zone.

It really is no different than trying to get used to the extreme heat down here.
I too lived up in the snow-belt area on Lake Erie in Ohio as well as in Mid-State (Corning area) NY. It is NOT a blizzard each and every day all winter long and the skies are not grey every day either, that is just an exaggeration IMO. LOL
I can not tell you how many times I have had my front door open (with a storm door closed of course) to let in the sunshine during the winters I have lived up north. I actually miss being able to wear sweaters all the time, I love sweaters!!
I remember after living in Atlanta for 8 years, it took a while to re-adjust to the cooler temps up north in the winter. I was used to wearing shorts and a sweatshirt most of the winter.

I have lived in Ohio my entire life and I have never gotten used to the cold. It's 38 degrees right now. I can't wait to relocate to Florida where I can be warm all year long.

The title of this thread reminds me of a sign I saw on the back of someone's truck in Tequesta the other day:
"Leaving Florida? Take a developer with you."

its funny to think, but in the time ive lived here, 11 yrs, another 3 MILLION people have moved here! of course, id have no problem with that if it was 3 million women, between the ages of 18-45 and single
