Smile schools

My GF was telling me all about the "A" rating of the schools that she discovered after she lost her home in New Orleans in Katrina. Relatively speaking, the schools are pretty good, some are better.

I also want to move to Florida--to the peninsula which is Pinellas County. The top job economy is not in Orlando, but in the Tampa Bay area (includes Pinellas County).

Same as you, the hurricanes are something to consider: I am mulling over moving inland from downtown Tampa to be on higher ground. Take a look at a map of the area and imagine a 25-32' surge coming through. It's not just the devastation of your building, but the rising costs in the aftermath and, initially, the quality of life as a whole.

Are you used to living at the beach? Florida has some very inexpensive living in the interior. And although not as majestic as Hawaii or as highly diverse as California, there is diversity in lifestyle and geography. No red or green sand, but tourist or local, we can distinguish the grains of sand in Ft. Lauderdale (liquordale), South Beach and the Emerald Coast (Pensacola/Ft. Walton/Destin). As well as the water.

But you didn't say what you do for a living, did you? That matters, let us know. Best of luck to you. Like you, I have some trepidation--I am also frightened about moving all alone as a single woman, but excited, as well. Aloha!

Default Moving to Florida in December...? shipping question ?

Hi,
I live on Oahu in Waianae. I've been here for 21 years and feel like you do in many ways. It is just me and my cat. I booked a flight yesterday to depart on Dec. 14th. Today, I started looking for a moving company and found your post. I can totally relate to the housing crisis/expense here. I can buy a house in Florida, but never here. I'm filing for divorce this week. We have a lot in common.

As for shipping...I have heard bad things about people getting boxes stolen. Does anyone out there know of a reputable moving company??

If you move to Florida in the next month, maybe we can share a container and cut our costs in half?? A smaller one would be ideal and I only need about 1/3 of it. I am not taking much furniture (3 pieces), mostly a lot of collectibles that are sentimental. I have a lot of lovebirds that I will have to leave behind and I'm in the process of letting go. Let me know if you are moving soon. I'm a haole female too. My dad is in St. Augustine and that is where I'm headed. I better get back to my Google searching...Jeanette
