Hello everyone! My family is looking to move back to Florida. Originally from Jupiter, FL we moved to Southern Maine a few years ago. We love life in Maine (super nice people, seasons, and no crime). However, we are looking to relocate back to the sunshine state.

My parents are retired and looking for a low crime, low millage rate area in Northern Florida. My husband and I are looking for something with more night life. We want to stay within an hour or two of each other.

Are there any places in Northern Florida with a low millage & not a ton of crime? If you live there, how bad was the hurricane damage? Our house Florida definitely had damage, but not destruction, and we were within a five minute walk from the beach.

What's Panama City Beach like? Never been, but heard mixed feelings.

Also, any other places you could recommend? I know Southern Florida like the back of my hand, but I've never been north of Sebastian.

Thanks in advance!!

Palm Coast would be a great choice for your parents. The millage rate sits at 4.0 and is a beautiful, safe community with all of the conveniences. Hurricane damage is typically no where as severe as other parts of the state. That area northward to Jacksonville hasn't had any hurricanes make landfall and only suffers damage from crossover storms out of the Gulf of Mexico. I would point you toward Jacksonville which has some very desirable in-town neighborhoods like Riverside, San Marco or Springfield. If you're more into coastal living check out Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach or Ponte Vedra Beach. All are right around an hour (or a bit over) to Palm Coast.

Wait a minute, let me get this straight: You're from Jupiter, but you've never been north of Sebastian?
