I've heard of someone getting foreclosed? apartments for less than 400 a month. I don't know exactly what it is but I thought they bought the apartment but still needed to pay the tax and other things which added up to less than 400 or something like that. Really fuzzy on it.

You might be able to find a studio apartment in a bad area for $400. I've never seen anything on Craigslist for less than around $500.

South Florida is HUGE!

There are some trailers and studios available for $300/month.

Use craigslist and search yourself.

I've helped folks get into senior/low income HUD housing, some of which is really very nice and well maintained and located. The rent runs 30-percent of one's income and includes utilities! (For those on SSI of about $800 per month, their rent is less than $300 (in some cases, they are required to also buy a monthly meal plan for $150.)

Otherwise, I've helped folks locate LT $400 places, but, unless one is sharing a rental with someone else, these are typically located in low income, 'drug-ridden' areas. There are probably some exceptions, but, in my experience, that's the norm.

I wonder if somebody could hide the net worth they do have to quality for income assisted apartments... problem is that I'm too honest to do that... but I have seen some cheap rentals and places to buy in the dead center of the state... I suppose there's good reason but it might have some benefits such as avoiding the traffic nightmare living in the large metro areas on either side of the state.

Living in the dead middle of the southern 1/2 to 1/3 of Florida worth it? Good road biking? I suppose I'd want a job with insurance to even think about road biking anyways. Better off staying where I'm at. I like it warm but I think I'd get sick of 85+ degrees for so many months straight.

For that sort of price, only HUD, w/roommates, trailers, and small studios/1bd apts. in crime-ridden awful areas.

Only from approx. $650-800 + for a decent studio or possibly a small 1bd/1ba in a fair/average but safe enough neighborhood.

Where exactly in South FL are you interested in? Are you interested in living by yourself or with roommates?

I used to live in Broward and I live in Palm Beach now. However, it's been my experience that even in the more undesirable locations with high crime rates it's tough to find something for less $600-800 in South FL.

Even in the more decent areas to live in you don't get much for your money. I own a home now, but a few years ago in Coral Springs my husband and I rented a 700 sq foot 1 bedroom apartment for just under $1200/mo. It was in a nice area, close to shopping, the expressway, and was gated. Most of the "nice" areas will be at least $1000/mo rent.
