Hello Everyone,

My sister and I are seriously considering moving to the East Coast of Florida from the Boston Area. We are in our mid 20's, my sister works in broadcast journalism/media and I am finishing my bachelors degree to become an RN. We have family close to the space center (Viera and Merritt Island) so we would like to be located fairly close, within an hours drive or so. We will be moving from a town in the North Shore area of Boson that sees a lot of seasonal tourist and is diverse in not only culture but the types of people who reside in the city. We are use to having a vast selection of trendy restaurants to chose from at home as well as swanky lounges if we head into Boston and are looking for something relatively comparable. We also love the shopping the small boutiques offer us not only in our home town but in Boston as well. Another requirement is to be in close proximity to a beach. We would be ok with a 15-20 min drive but a city or town on the water would be great. We definitely do not want to be in Miami although it may sound that that is what we're looking for. What we are looking for is to be in area that attracts a young professional crowd as we would like to build a social circle and meet new people.

My apologies for sounding a bit all over the map. Any suggestions and direction is greatly appreciated.

It will be difficult to find what you are looking for because of your desired proximity to the Space Coast. I would choose between West Palm Beach/Palm Beach Gardens, which is about 1.5 hours from Vero Beach or Orlando, which is about an hour from Merritt Island (however, it is an hour from the beach).

Given your age group and desire to be around others that age who are working professionals I would recommend Fort Lauderdale. It also offers the level of food/restaurant/nightclub scene you're accustomed to. The West Palm Beach metro has fewer single professionals and is more family oriented.

I agree with Kyle about Ft. Lauderdale. I loved it when I went there.
