We really enjoyed High Springs when we lived up around the Gainesville area, and probably would have stayed right there if we had not been required to move for my husband's job. It's a nice small town that is still within reasonable distance to Gainesville to commute for work (my husband and I both did this). You can also go to Alachua right up the road for some nice little restaurants if you don't want to go all the way into Gainesville. If you enjoy the outdoors, O'leno State Park and Ichetucknee Springs are just a few minutes drive. It's somewhat of a tourist town because of the antique shops, but we always enjoyed that because it brought people to town (not
too many, though) so we didn't feel like we were out in the middle of nowhere. Just be prepared for Pioneer Days, when it seems like everyone in Alachua county and the surrounding areas are in town for several days. When we lived there (about 2 years ago), there were a few new residental developments being built in the area. There are a few real estate offices in High Springs, although I can't vouch for any of them personally. However I'm sure they would be the experts on the High Springs area.
