macguy...."Too many gross exaggerations to even take serious."

sorry...no exaggerations here...they are my life and what I am in the middle of and exactly why we are moving. I wish to all I know that they were exaggerations. After being here 50 years, there are many of these changes that I have been in the middle of and, unfortunately, I do not see anything changing any time soon. Its a shame. I will admit I have never been a fan of Florida, but I never would have thought I would get to a point in my life where I would hate it. And, everyone's answer is, just move...well, we have family....we have roots. We are slowly pulling them out. So we will.

I spent 20 years in northern NJ, and in a nice area at that. (sussex county). It actually was beautiful, with lakes and ski slopes nearby, but only an hour from NYC. Some areas in NJ are unbelievably rural. They don't call it the garden state for nothin'.

But my vote still goes to Florida. We moved down here the right way. We made sure we had a job first, and we chose to live in St. Johns County, near Jacksonville where there actually is a sense of community (somewhat) and good schools. We weren't looking for some tropical paradise and we didn't just come here on a whim.

The main reason we live here as opposed to NJ, is that people are so much more friendly here. They smile more, and generally just seem happier. For the most part, people are polite to each other and not as rushed as they are in some of the more affluent areas of the northeast. I guess you could say that people are just more laid back here in this part of Florida. But, honestly, I would never want to live anywhere else in Florida....except for maybe around Tampa.

As far as the weather goes, I hate when it is brutally hot in the summer , but I hate the brutally cold winters in the northeast even worse. I'd rather sweat than shiver anytime!

If this is your life, then you live in some kind of alternate universe of your own creation. Your writing is a common form of exaggerated speak like, "Every time I call my sister, she never answers her phone", or "I just saw a rat, I swear it was as big as a dog". Obviously these is not a true statements. The sister does answer her phone so the use of the word "never" is not true and a rat is not as big as a dog even though the speaker swears to it. It is a common form of exaggerations, or lying, that is accepted in communicating ones experiences but not the truth never the less.

It is hard to tell what is the truth and what is an an out and out lie when listening to someone who speaks in this way. Even this short post I am responding to of yours is an exaggeration in you saying your other post has no exaggerations. You can't take anyone serious who has a habit of speaking in this manor. Sorry
You may have made a Freudian slip in that post by the way.

This one is more informative link the problem with their reasoning though is crap like "tourism growth" and "construction". After 9/11 South Florida had one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, almost double the national average. Reason being is the economy is tourism based and when people are not traveling anymore (they say we are headed toward recession as it is) that means these areas will take a HUGE hit. Construction, well in light of present events we know where thats going. I didn't see to many of the Florida ones that had huge and diverse industries to sustain it should a recession hit. Have to really look close at why and how these places are ranked.

My cousin moved from Brooklyn to New Jersey and she told me the people are down right unfriendly in NJ

Keep them coming... So far it sounds like Florida isn't perfect.. But it appears there are jobs and there are people who are happy...

And I agree with your cousin... The people here are unfriendly IMO... South Jersey is a little better...

I guess it could be argued that nice parts of Manhattan is better than Florida, if you're into the things Manhattan has to offer. There's no question that Florida is far superior to the outer boroughs, NJ and Long Island. Those places don't offer anything on their own, except good schools in some areas, only proximity to Manhattan.

Where I go to/plan on moving to in NJ the people are actually friendlier than the ones in my city

That's another reason I fell for the place I'm looking at.
