Can't stand the winters up here anymore ( and the cost of living). Right now I'm paying for 2 mortgages so you can see what I'm going through. Once this is sold, we are out of here! I am retired which helps.
We closed on the Fl. home in Aug/07. If we waited any longer, we would have lost closing cost breaks and the type of house we wanted. Thank God we have good neighbors on both sides of us to watch the house until we settle in.
Hi. I am a Brit still living in the UK, having just retired & thinking of living in florida for most of the year, have been looking at property in Rockledge on the Net, maybe you could give me an insight to why you chose the Rockledge area to retire to yourself.
thanks, Ken

Such as where did you move from and to?
Did you make the right choice of towns?
Would you do it again? Wish you did it sooner? Wish you wouldnt have ever done it?
Did you research the town you moved to?
Are you happy? unhappy?
What about cost of living compared to your former state?
Did you get excited to move and are you still excited to be there or not?
Just some general idea of what you think, both the good and the bad.
Did City Data info/post help you in your choice?

You are the people who can provide important information to those of us who are moving to Florida someday soon, its important because you have lived somewhere else and now live in Florida and have the experience of what it was like before in another state and after you moved to Florida. Sure many others can provide great info but its you guys and gals that have been there and done that recently.

Your input is appreciated !
Hi I moved to Miami in November of 2005 after living in Providence for 14 years and before that I lived in Narragansett. I am 37 and I wish I had done it earlier. Previously I had tried Fort Lauderdale for 6 mos but I found it a bit boring. I moved back to RI. After living in Spain for just 3 mos. I found it next to impossible to move back to boring old old old Rhode Island. You have to sweat or freeze all year long and work like a dog to live in the smallest state with some of the dumbest people who sadly think they are some of the smartest.. not a good combo. I LOVE MIAMI! RI just BLOWS compared to MIAMI. There is no state income tax and the republican governor is doing back flips to make it an attractive state for businesses. Cost of living is all over the scale but I'll tell you one thing it beats Rhode Island. Get out Get out of where-ever you are and get to FL. Choose a City you think you will REALLY enjoy.

I've been here in Florida exactly once year today. It feels like forever. I just want to go home. I hope the next 4 or 5 years until retirement go quickly.

where did you move from and to?
I was born and raised and central islip and then moved to lindenhurst (which i loved) and I moved to Deltona,FL (located in central florida).
Did you make the right choice of towns?

Well i believe so.....
Would you do it again? Wish you did it sooner? Wish you wouldn't have ever done it?

Wish I would have never done it!!!
Did you research the town you moved to?

No....
Are you happy? unhappy?

It depends how i feel, Happy for the most part but when i start to think on how much i miss long island and the four seasons it makes me unhappy
What about cost of living compared to your former state?

I must admit, but the houses here are indeed very cheap, but i don't own a house and live an a apartment, the apartments here are way to expensive.
Did you get excited to move and are you still excited to be there or not?

At the time i was very excited about moving to florida because we expected so much. I am no longer excited of being here in florida... I have been here for a year and a half and all my wife and i do is talk about how much we miss the people, the food, the beaches, even the cold weather in long island.
Just some general idea of what you think, both the good and the bad.

Well my opinion about florida is that, yes it is a beautiful state for vacation, that's it!!! this state is more for the busines's then for the people. The state of florida is infested with way to much segregation and racism and being born and raised from long island i really did not get to experience that whole racism thing because in long island every one is together and in florida its the races on there own, which in return makes me feel very uncomfortable.
It is impossible to find a job down here as well and if you do find one you better thank god for it. You see in new york i was paying to live alot, but i was making enough to support my wife and i and still saved and at the same time was able to go out and have fun. Here in florida im living pay check to pay check and this is the first time for me to live in this manner and im very uncomfortable with it.
The crime in florida is ridiculous and i was very suprised about that, but considering the fact that owning and purchasing a firearm is so easy that in return you have more criminal with guns. But i don't regret moving down here, because moving down here made me realize that I took long island out of contacts and took every thing for granted as well. I'm willing to move back to long island just to live how i use to and it was happy and stable and even to put up with the traffic and all those immigrants that every one hates.
Did City Data info/post help you in your choice?

No.
