Charlotte County schools consistently are the best schools in Florida, usually in the top 10. I taught in the Charlotte Co. School system and the administration and board members are wonderful people who put the child first. The schools are not run down and the ones that are older are getting facelifts thanks to Charley.
Most of the crime here is drug related, meth and marijuana grow houses. Stranger on stranger crime is very low, it is usually crimes of passion or drug related crimes.
I consider Charlotte County a safe area. I sleep with my windows open. I have children aged 5 to 18. My kids consistently make straight A's in school and they are active in sports and art etc.
Your child can do very well here if she has parents that give a da*$. If you don't put your child first, then they can get in trouble ANYWHERE!

The 'best schools in Florida' is a relative term. Florida, factually speaking, is among the worst states education-wise in the country. The best of the worst, ok, congrats Charlotte County. What I was saying is that the schools here are going to easily be worse than the schools where he is now, so use it as leverage in the legal fights. Read the stats, it is merely facts. Hey, I wish for the kids in my neighborhood that it was better. Maybe you have not lived other places, it is VERY different in other states. If you do not know what else is out there, then you do not know how bad it is here.

I think the real point of this post is that he doesn't want his ex to take his daughter that far away from him.
It doesn't sound like he wants to move anywhere. He needs a good attorney.

Your posts are very negative overall about Charlotte County, and I bet you have never even been here. You say that Collier is safer than Charlotte County, I do not think so.
Anyway, I have lived several places Brooklyn, NY, Bellevue, WA, Atlanta, GA, West Palm Beach, FL mainly and maybe the schools here are not the BEST in the country, but not everyone is doomed for failure if they go through Florida schools. As Hannah Montana sings, LIFE'S WHAT YOU MAKE IT, so lets make it ROCK! If this guy's child moves to Charlotte County, she is not doomed in life.
Your attitude on most of your posts come across very NEGATIVELY and you seem very unhappy and badmouth areas you have never even been to. Stick with the NAPLES posts. Thanks!

I am an educator and have taken a lot of time to research the schools in Southwest Florida. I did not say that everyone who attends school here is doomed for failure. I was merely trying to help this man with his situation. The schools in Florida are notoriously bad and ranked in the bottom 10% of schools in the nation, that is simply fact. For one thing, the money the state spends on each individual child is surprisingly low. Of course there are some good schools here and good teachers and smart kids but this man might be able to use this information in his case.
This man came on here looking for opinions and facts. Yours is a good opinion of the area, mine not so much. That is life, not everyone feels the same way about everything. Now, this man can take all of our opinions and advice and use them in his research and come to his own conclusions.
Just because someone does not agree with you, no need to attack them. I am sure there are people that are miserable living in million dollar homes in Malibu and people that are happy living in subsidized housing in the projects. However, there is an overwhelming presence of negative comments about SW FLA in general on this board, must mean something.
Also, I never said that Collier County was safer, please do not misquote me. What I said was that I would be concerned about crime in Charlotte County. Of course there is crime in Naples too and don't even get me started about Fort Myers in Lee County but close by. Hello, Immokalee is in Collier County, what fool would call that safe. I would not recommend that his wife move his daughter to Collier County either, but he did not ask about Collier.

I just have to ask you, novanative75.....WHY do you live here? Sounds as though you would be much happier anywhere but Florida. Why don't you just leave? If you're an educator, it's not as though Florida is the only state with schools.

First of all, what does your custody agreement say? If she is allowed to move with your daughter, you'll have to make the best of it. If it says she can't, then she can't. Regardless, just make sure you put your daughter's welfare FIRST.
It's totally conceivable that if she's allowed to move your daughter out of state, that she will be responsible for all transportation costs to get her back up to you for visits.
You may want to check out divorcenet.com. There are a ton of people there who are very knowledgable and very helpful. There are also discussion boards for the different states, so I'm sure the Florida board will be able to give you lots of valuable advice.

My husband's job. I would leave in a second if I could. I would be much happier anywhere but Florida but we are stuck for now. I have worked for several years as an educator in Virginia and Maryland and Altlanta and they all were wonderful places to work.

Quoting from your post on 11-7-07:
The crime in Naples is not as bad as Lee and Charlotte County but watching the news around here makes me think, 'wow, who knew there were so many low class, trashy people in one area.' Sorry, if that sounded rude but it is what it is. I have never been to Cape Coral or Port Charlotte so I can not speak to those areas, but from what I have heard and from what you see on the news, I do not even want to visit, YUCK!
Again, why don't you stick to places you have been to before you slam them.

My apologies, I did not realize you were stalking my posts. You are correct, I did write that and based my opinions on listening to the news and reading the newspaper, silly me.
My simple point, I would not recommend ANY area in SW FLA to anyone, crime aside. Perhaps it is for some but it is not for me and I was only sharing my opinion. I was speaking about SW FLA as a whole as it is often grouped together as such. Although areas of SW FLA are different from others, there does seem to be an overall feeling here when it comes to certain things and a similarity in the areas (each having good parts, bad parts, etc.)
The overwhelming negativity towards SW FLA on this board makes me know I am not alone.
I sincerely do apologize if I have offended anyone but I am very unhappy here and want people to really research what they are getting themselves into.
