Thumbs down Looking for Lake City Florida Information

We are looking to move from Maine to Florida. I hate the idea of moving but Maine winters bother my husbands back.
Does Lake City have any public transportation? any busses? Any trolleys? Taxis are so expensive.

Default Lake City public transportation

Hi. It's a great place to live...small town manners but with most bigger city ameneties. Unfortunately, bus service is not one of them. There are several county sponsored transit services for getting to doctor's appointments, shopping, etc. and we do have a taxi service. If you don't drive, it might be difficult for you. I did have one customer who moved here from Ft. Lauderdale who did not drive - rode his bicycle everywhere - and ended up moving again to Gainesville, FL which does have a great bus system. Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Lake City is a very small town country style. I've never seen another place with so many rebel flags waving, which is nice because is part of the American folklore and must be preserved.

I have lived here for 20 years, mostly gov't and service type jobs. The growth has impacted quality of life.I don't know about the flag statement,I have seen a couple but nothing unusual.THASPECIAL obviously hasn't been to L.C. in sometime, there are many areas of expensive subdivision's.I preferred L.C. of old much more.Plenty of room for improvement. To much government for me,to much regulation.Pretty safe area to live and move around.

Even Jacksonville's public transportation system is pretty dismal, I am not even aware if Lake City has any public transportation ?

Lake City is very small and very rural.....is that what you're looking for?

You're right....i havent actually lived there in a while....but i did ride through there and stopped to see what my old neighborhood was like when i was on my way back from Tennessee last year......I couldn't believe i actually lived in that town when i saw it again......It looked run down ....and i asked my mother if she remembered it being this way and she said ...yes this is how it was when we were here before.....its a rural area with a good ole boy feeling and it looks like some bad areas in Orlando to tell you the truth except without all the crime issues.....The Lake City Mall still looked the same to me....but alot smaller....people always hung out in the mall parking lot there when i was a kid and when i went back last year there were 2 families just in different areas of the parking lot siting near the back of thier car on lawn chairs and thier kids were just running around and they had a cooler out there too.....i remeber seeing people do that as a kid so i guess not alot has changed.....i went by the public pool near Baya ave. where i went swimming as a kid too and it looked the same too but as an adult my perceptions are different....i was poor as a kid and now i am still kind of poor but i see how poor i really was back then after driving by my old house out there...we were living out of a car 2 times and one time it was before we got to Tallahassee and then a year later we ended up in Lake City and it seems the same as i drove through again but i dont know what new buisnesses there are in town...because i didnt see alot of new stuff on the main strip there.....and actually a friend i met in Orlando at work just got his job here and grew up in Lake City and i would ask him things and he would say, "yeah" that still happens" or "yeah this still happens" so i dont know if the main town has changed dramatically...maybe the outskirts have developed some gated communities but i didnt see any in town when i went back

Smile Lake City to someone from Michigan

I don't remember where I saw the post by someone who was wondering how someone from Michigan would like Lake City, but here's my take on that. My husband was born and raised in Detroit and, after considering several other places to retire, he said he thought Lake City would be nice (laid back and no crowds).

We're going back to Lake City to see what's happening on the 4th of July!
