"New York, which has a computerized system to check insurance, has only five percent of its drivers uninsured."

Apparently the folks in Tallahassee are to dimwitted to figure out how to do this.

Every time I changed insurance carriers, I get a notice from DMV stating that I have to show proof of coverage by certain date, so I do not know how others get away with it? Maybe stolen plates on cars that have no registration?

It's up to the insurance companies to report to DHSMV that you have cancelled your insurance policy. Many insurance companies just don't do it.

1 out of 4 people driving without insurance is insane, and something should be done about it.

A "deportable offense"? Deport them to where?

To South or Central America, Haiti, the Caribbean or wherever they came from. The reason many are driving without insurance is probably because they are illegals, I bet many uninsured drivers are not even licenced. If you can't drive nor afford insurance take a bus or get a bike.

The state should regulate insurance so that they issue a card instead of paper, and something that can be verified by police. Even paper registrations are ridiculous. Where I came from they had a laminated card for over 10 years for registration.

So what you are suggesting is that only "illegals" are the ones who drive without Insurance? To have a license plate in Florida you need a registration which requires proof of Insurance to begin with. I guess only Americans are the only ones who are responsible drivers huh?
