What beaches would be a good fit for the following?

-Family friendly
-Good recreation (snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, etc.)
-Within 8 hrs of Atlanta
-Not real built up, touristy (no panama city or daytonas)

One place that I've found that seems to be a good fit is Cape San Blas. Has anyone ever been there, any thoughts on it?

Fort DeSoto: Pinellas County, Florida, Park & Conservation Resources - Fort De Soto Park (I don't know about windsurfing, though.)

For snorkeling, you can take the ferry from Fort DeSoto to Egmont Key (another wonderful place!): Egmont Key Ferry & Activites at Hubbards Marina - West Florida, Tampa bay area, Fort Desoto, Fort Desoto County Park, Fort Desoto State Park, Saint Petersburg, Gulfport, Saint Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Fort Desoto Ferry, Egmont Key, Egmont Key Fer

Cape San Blas is exactly what you're looking for. Beautiful beaches, nice water, and no crowds. It's old Florida. It's the complete opposite of Panama City Beach and Daytona. Don't expect great snorkeling though. The only place in Florida with decent snorkeling is the Keys.
