The good thing about Deltona is that it has fairly inexpensive and not an impossible commute to Orlando. Now here are the bad things:

1. It's been designated by insurance companies as a "sink-hole area", so it's not that easy to get insurance

2. Flooding in a number of the neighborhoods has been a problem

3. Not so good school districts, and has more crime than you would expect from a suburb on the outer outskirts of Orlando.

4. Home of the imfamous "X-Box Slayings" - Google X-Box, Baseball Bat, and Deltona for more details.

5. Although commute to Orlando is not impossible, it's pretty bad.

Deltona...my wife's grandmother lives there in a beautiful community of 2/3 bedroom homes. There have been 20 or so for sale, and nothing has sold in the past 18 months! Prices are dropping like crazy as old folks see what they thought was their retirement nest egg evaporate before their eyes. These aren't even cookie cutter homes, they just can't sell.

Deltona is quickly becoming another suburb of the South Florida mess. If you like that, go for it. Lots of retired people, so lots of jobs in the service industry. You can always find a job washing dishes there. Unless you are a nurse or a doctor or someone who deals with the elderly for lots of money, it is really more of a place you go to die rather than live.

I cant wait to leave! We have been here 15 months and have our car and home broken into 3 times! Yes, the housing was inexpensive and acted as a lure but if I could turn back time.....I would die if my daughter walked the streets like most of the kids here. My opinion, spend a little more and go to Port Orange or The nicer areas of Daytona Beach.
