Hello,

What I most want is a community that offers a ton of classes, dances, lunches, walks, outings for the 50 + crowd. But also each "class" affordable. Having a community center that specializes in this, and maybe has it's own separate health club, with equipment and computers for the 50+. I'm not against younger people, but it is gonna be easier for me to make friends with an older crowd, whose children are grown, and maybe don't work anymore. Somewhere that isn't spread way out, concentrated area to live, a smaller city or just the right neck of the city woods perhaps or a smaller town.

Priority is my ability to create community, I am 50 years old. I have been mostly isolated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Now I am ready to fill my life with people and easy activities.

My ideal place for this is Dunedin FL. Yet it is a little expensive for rent and electricity and a bit of a stretch financially. The community center there offers so much for so little money, but it is costly to live there.

Is there any other city that seems to fit what I am looking for?

I have to rent.

I'd like to find a studio or 1 bedroom for 500, Dunedin seems to be 600 and more. It is a stretch.

So anywhere else that would suit me? Must have tons of sun!

Thank you

A few towns come to mind. If you prefer the Gulf side of the state check out Citrus County (Beverly Hills area) or Englewood in Charlotte County. On the Atlantic side either St Augustine or Vero Beach would work well too.

Thank you.

I looked at the Beverly Hills area and the rentals look very sad, so I figure the area can't look that good either, so I didn't delve more.

St. Augustine, way too pricey.

Vero Beach though looks attractive and more affordable. But I could find nothing like classes for 50+ like Dunedin. Can you point me in the direction of where I can find that?

And Englewood seems sooo far south but it had so few rentals, and 2 bds were 850.

Any other ideas for me?

Thank you

Unfortunately your price range is quite low for the Florida rental market which is inflated due to the high number of foreclosures and seasonal tourist rentals, and am afraid you're not going to find anything suitable in terms of safety/quality. Have you considered other similar warm weather locations? Places like Mobile AL or McAllen/Harlingen/Brownsville TX have quite a bit in your price range which is closer to the norm.

It is looking like FL may not work.

Brownsville, Texas is very cloudy, I lived there for 2 years, 4 months. You must be able to speak Spanish if you live in Brownsville. It is a VERY Mexican city with 93 or more percent people who speak Spanish, remember it's a border city with Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. It is a little dangerous these days because of the Mexican Cartels, something to seriously think about. Cheap rent in a dangerous environment.

Default Looking to vacation in Dunedin and possible move

Hello, my husband and I are thinking about visiting Dunedin in a couple of months. I am 46 and he 50 years of age. Does anyone know where to stay for the week? I did consult with Trip advisor it seems "The Best Western plus had good reviews. We are from MA. We are starting to look around for a possible move in two years. We'd like a town with bars, restaurants but still like a home town feel. Very friendly people.

Thanks in advance,

Sophia

The Best Western is a good option, clean and in a nice location on the water. As an FYI I would also recommend checking out neighboring Safety Harbor which has a nice little downtown area with restaurants/bars and some shops. It's a very friendly town and less touristy than Dunedin which is a nice perk when actually living here. Downtown Dunedin is 15 minutes away so if/when you want to go, it's quite close.

my husband and I have vacationed in Florida many many time's in the past 5 years and we have always used vrbo.com to find a place to stay. It is vacation rental's by owner, we have rented houses, condo's and a small family run motel 1 bedroom. lot's of options to chose from. good luck with places to stay and your possible move. We have been to Dunedin and loved the quaint town. We also liked Safety Harbor. We have been researching for the last 3 1/2 years for a move to Florida and we are very close to making our dream come true. Our house in Ohio is for sale, we have decided on East Coast/ Jensen Beach, Stuart as our destination.

Hello, thank you everyone for the great input. We have been so indecisive as to when we will be planning to move. It is always a scary prospect just picking up and moving but that is the chance we have to take. I am an avid fan of that show "House Hunters" on Hgtv that is the first time I had ever heard of Dunedin, Fl. I will look into Safety Harbor now as well.
