I wonder if the people who literally camp out days ahead of time for a sale ever add up how much they spend on fast food meals, etc, while they are camping. I bet it puts a big dent in how much money they save on whatever bargains the store has.

I know people who go to Black Friday and only come out with a pack of pencils.

I agree it's sad, pathetic and destroying the holiday tradition for many who have to not only work weird hours they normally wouldn't have to, but also keep families/friends apart on Thanksgiving. I worked in Retail for many years and when this practice of opening for Black Friday at 10pm on Thanksgiving night started in a few of the Outlet centers about 5-6 years ago, I knew it was only a matter of time before the greedy/clueless CEOs of other companies began the same sick practice. What I don't understand is through what has been shown to be weak increases over LY numbers, how it's felt this is a successful tactic. All it does is spread holiday dollars out over a greater period of time and not as if consumers are inspired to spend more because there's suddenly more time to shop. I guess if the CEOs come up with enough smoke and mirrors, the Board of Directors/shareholders feel they're doing their jobs.
